EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH

LUPE PEREZ

Lupe graduated from San Juan Capistrano High School in

2002, and continued her education at the Education Institute

learning computers. She joined the Villas staff in 2005. Lupe

started as a Caregiver and was soon promoted to a Med Tech

supervisor. She loves her job and takes her responsibility very seriously. The

relationships that she has developed with the residents make her happy and

proud to be a part of the Villas team. Peggy Sunshine my supervisor is very knowledgeable and understanding.

Lupe is the mother of three children and a dedicated employee.

Happy Anniversary San Clemente Villas!

Wow, I returned from Maui and October took me by storm…so much is happening aroundhere and it is all positive! We had many great employee training sessions and three very suc-cessful events…Oktoberfest, The Anniversary Party and Halloween.I am in the fall state of mind…it is such a beautiful time of year! Or buildingrenovations are going well, new granite in the lobby. Several new pieces of furniture havearrived and many new pieces of art and silk plants/trees are coming. We want San ClementeVillas to look as good as we did on opening day 6 years ago. You must reflect on the same cus-tomer service strategies of a great leader, Walt Disney. Walt wanted to exceed your expecta-tions and give you an experience that was a cut above the rest and that’s want I want for SanClemente Villas. Excellent Customer Service and Satisfaction is my #1 goal as your Executive

director. Our pool area will be closed during the month of December for a total renovation.I am so thankful to be your Executive Director, as most of you know I grew up in this business. My first job in long term

care was in 1980 at age 19, I accepted a position in activities at a 158 bed nursing home while attending college. I worked onand off in this industry between 1980 and 1985 and then in 1985, I returned full-time and here I am 28 years later. I got mystart in activities, then sales and marketing, but in 1990 I found myself as a divorced single mom with 2 little boys and I decid-ed to accept my first Administrator’s position. Many people tell me that I am so lucky to love what I do. I love the interactionwith the staff, mentoring people, encouraging residents to get involved and meeting all the wonderful families.

San Clemente Villas offers me the perfect formula for success…the combination of Independent Living, AssistedLiving and Memory Care in a resort-like setting. I am so grateful for Aileen and Paul, they give me the autono-my to do what it takes to steer this big cruise ship in the right direction. The secret to my success is hiring theright talent to manage each department. I love helping out in all areas, but I expect each manager to holdtheir staff accountable and embrace my expectations of excellence inCustomer Service and satisfaction!

Let’s embrace the ATTITUDE of GRATITUDE!

Happy Thanksgiving to all

We had a wonderful 6th Anniversary party at the Villas lastmonth. Chef Salvador stated the day with a fabulous lunch-eon of Lobster, Filet Magnon, and Salmon. The party continued at Happy Hour as ourresidents and staff danced to the music of Rick McClellan. Background music wasprovided by Kenny Williams and his steel drums at the evening event. Once againChef Salvador and the entire kitchen staff provided a very elegant looking and tastingbuffet. The holidays are officially upon us once again, but please don’t forget to castyour ballot at the very important upcoming election. Voting day is November 4th andwe are encouraging all our staff and residents to wear Red, White & Blue on this day.On Thanks giving Day we have some fun activities planned for the residents. We now

have two big screen TV’s to watch the parade and football games together. A traditional Thanksgiving dinnerwill be served starting at 11:30, if you would like to invite your family please call Anna at the front desk. Afterour early feast we will play Thanksgiving Bingo with extra surprises and money. Even if you are not a regularbingo participant come and join the fun. AGING IS……......Article submitted by Resident, Frances Collier

NEW RESIDENTS GIVE FEED BACK BEFORE6TH ANNIVERSARY PARTYBy Sara Rand

Aging is........Hail the imminent passing of stereotypes about Aging and theAged!INTRACTABLE: IMPOVERISHED, DISABLED, FAT CATS,BURDENSOME, USELESS, ANTIQUATED VALUES,SENILE, TAX DRAIN, IMPOTENT, OPINIONATED,ILL…….Ignite a Burial Pyre to the Myths! WAKE UP AMERICA! It’stime to start reshaping attitudes toward “Life’s Final Passage” –Aging in our “Country of the Young” mentality. “In the Countryof the Young, Old people move like shadows. They have preced-ed us as travelers in the land of youth, but we rarely stop to askthem the way. To remember that they were young is to realizethat all will be old.”

VISTA – Volunteers in Service to America—2005, reveals astartling total of 11.4 million volunteers served by VISTA mem-bers. The value of IN-Kind resources raised was an overwhelm-ing $104.9 million. No specific age differentiation applies inthese reported figures. It is easy to infer that a significant num-ber of these volunteers come from the ranks of seniors. One need only to look at San Clemente Villas to confirm thewide range of volunteer services rendered which offers a com-plement to the right range of programs and activities in place. One will find support in the Library, tending the Village Store, leadership in implementing new programs, assistance in pro-grammed events, orientating Newcomers to the community andon and on ad infinitum. With boisterous shout, let’s wake up in this country of the youngmentality! My challenge to all is to create and redefine the oldstereotypes to a realistic label of AGING IS!!!!!

describing San Clemente Villas by the Sea and its Staff (StephanieAlter, Director of Marketing, since 2002)We had a fabulous 6th Anniversary Party. Not many communities havebragging rights to retaining so many high quality employees for morethan 4 years plus! The Executive Director, Marketing Director, AssistedLiving Director, Food Service Director & Supervisors, TransportationDirector, Maintenance Engineers and at least 20 other caregivers, house-keepers and administrative staff have chosen to serve this wonderfulcommunity for up to 6 years. The entire community and staff celebrated with a beautiful Lobster and

Filet Mignon luncheon followed by a SUPER evening Cocktail Party with Live Entertainment,Champagne, Wine, Beer and an assortment of Appetizers and Desserts.Despite the current economy, we have enjoyed a 96% to 98% occupancy rate and have a nicewaiting list for various suites. Our competitive, yet very affordable rates, and our very gener-ous service-oriented, active owners are doing their very best to give you the “BEST for less”than our corporate competitors. Many communities do not offer as many food choices, activ-ities, parties, custom accommodations, concierge services or real staff involvement. Mostemployees can name each and every resident here and are personally committed to each resi-dent on a daily basis. Boasting 157 suites and approximately 170 satisfied residents and theirfamilies, San Clemente Villas is the South Orange County Leaders in Independent and AssistedLiving. Drop in for a TOUR AND LUNCH, chat with anyone who resides here and find out for your-self how wonderful life is here on the CRUISE SHIP THAT NEVER SAILS!
