WORKERS RIGHTS / BANKING AND FINANCE• Wagner Act and Fair Labor Standards Act- standards for wages, hours, child labor,

unionization, and Collective Bargaining

• Today FDIC and SEC continue to monitor banking and stock market.- Created by the Glass-Steagall Act of 1933.

• These regulations protect Americans from Depressions.

SOCIAL SECURITY• Federal government assumes full responsibility for welfare of its citizens.

RURAL SCENE • Set quotas on production of agricultural goods

• Parity Prices: Price intended to keep farmers income steady. Established agricultural price supports.

• Rural Electrification Administration: allows for conditions to improve in rural areas.

ENVIRONMENT • FDR committed to conservation

• Civilian Conservation Corps: (CCC-planted trees, hiking trails, fire look out towers.

• Soil Conservation Service: taught farming techniques. Contour Plowing, Terracing, and crop rotation.

• Tennessee Valley Authority: harnessed water power to generate electricity. Built dams to control floods.

• However WWII would be the factor to pull us out of the depression. In many cases the economy grew because the government invested money into the private sector. Jobs were available, money was accessible, and the nation was unified against a common enemy.
