If none of the above strike you as interesting, look at “The Art Book” in the library, or if you like a certain art movement (ex. Impressionism), you can go to wikiart.org and look up that movement to find many more options!

Concept / Issue Research (30 Points!)

Please pick a controversial topic to base your mural on that you care about and in which you have interest. First, you are going to educate yourself, then you will try to educate and motivate others through your art: Think of this as your chance to engage people with an issue that you care about. The following is a list of POSIBLE ideas of controversial and very important issues facing you in your future. Please feel free to pick anything else, so long as you run it by me first:

Wealth distribution / poverty issues; GMOs and/or factory farming / organic and local farming; The American diet; War, war on terror, endless-war, peace movements, etc.; Surveillance state; Nationalism (pro and/or con); Religion and/or spirituality; Global warming / the environment; Public education; Healthcare; Racism and/or civil rights; Gun control; Gender roles and/or gender inequality; Consumerism and/or capitalism / greed; National debt; Political gridlock / partisan politics; Childhood / human development and/or the lifecycle; Technology in society (pro and/or con); Historical event; Marriage equality/ LGBTQQ issues.

where to begin. Narrow the field. After reading-up, what did you discover that you didn’t know

that you feel other people need to know? Are there any shocking statistics and/or hypocrisies that

need to be pointed out? How can you best contribute-to and champion your cause? What is your

cause? In the following blank, please ponder these question by writing out the goal of your mural
