Mr. Lincoln’s Early Years

Born February 12, 1807 in Kentucky Mother died of Milk Sickness in 1818 Moved to Illinois in 1830 Served as a Captain in the Illinois Militia during

the Blackhawk War Mr. Lincoln was a religious man and did not like

slavery Mr. Lincoln grew to be Six Feet Four Inches tall

Mr. Lincoln’s Life Before Being President

Mr. Lincoln did not attend law school, but he was a lawyer and a legendary debater. His training helped him win political offices

In 1832, when Mr. Lincoln was 25, he was first elected to the Illinois Legislature as a Republican

In 1842, Mr. Lincoln married Mary Todd and had a son, Robert in 1843 who lived to be an adult. They had three other children who died in early life

In 1858, Mr. Lincoln lost to Steven Douglas for the Illinois Senate In 1860, Mr. Lincoln won the race for President against Mr. John

C. Breckinridge and became the 16th President of The United States of America

Mr. Lincoln’s Presidency

The Richard Whig, a Southern Newspaper, said that Mr. Lincoln’s Presidency was “… the greatest evil that has ever befallen upon this country…”

Eleven Southern States began to Seceded from the Union in 1860 right after the election

Mr. Lincoln had two Vice Presidents during his two terms as President (Hannibal Hamlens and Andrew Johnson)

On November 19, 1863 after The Union Victory in Gettysburg, Mr. Lincoln gave his most famous speech called The Gettysburg Address. In this speech he said it’s not right that the same country is fighting against itself, brothers fighting brothers, and through this all we should have a new birth of freedom in this Union

During a play in Philadelphia on April 14, 1865, Mr. Lincoln said that he wanted to visit The Holy Land but at 10:14 PM, Mr. Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth
