Dear Parents/Carers,
On Wednesday our founding cohort attended the Class of 2019 Careers and Key Stage 4 Preferences
Information evening. It was a great opportunity for all parents, carers and pupils to touch base with their
subject teachers to discuss their child’s GCSE preferences for September 2015. I would like to thank all
parents/ carers for attending the event and welcoming our visiting speakers Hannah Wilbourne from
Oxford University and Noel Tierney from Wandsworth Development Officer for 14-19 Participation –
alternative pathways. I would like to say a special thank you to Ms Robinson for providing outstanding
Carers, Education and Guidance for all our Year 9 pupils this term.
This term we continue to appoint new staff as we prepare for the Class of 2022 - our fourth cohort. In
addition to external roles we have also made three marvellous internal promotions.
Ms Konneradt (MFL Teacher) has been appointed as an Instructional Coach to take over the train-
ing and development needs our newly qualified Teachers (NQTs) from Ms Westcott. Ms
Konneradt has an outstanding track record and will add invaluable capacity to our new Assistant
Principal Ms Tiltson when she commences her post in June 2015.
Ms Widdowson (English Teacher) has been appointed as our new SENCo from Easter 2015. We
are delighted she will taking on the role to train and develop our great Learning Support
Assistants. Ms Widdowson will be working closely with all parents/ carers whose children
have special educational needs and disabilities.
Today Mr Kerby was appointed to a new leadership position at Bolingbroke Academy - Pastoral
Development Leader as a new member of the extended core team. Mr Kerby will be responsible for
all our pastoral systems and developing the Heads of House teams as we prepare for Key Stage 4
(Year 10). As a result we are now advertising for a new Head of PE to commence their post in
September 2015.
Last week we appointed two Maths teachers:-
Mr Horley graduated from Sidney Sussex College – University of Cambridge with a BA, MEng Engi-
neering. Since graduating Mr Horley went into industry before embarking on a teaching career in
2011. Since 2012 he has been working in a high performing north London school focusing on GCSE
and A’ level teaching.
Ms Davidson graduated from University Sheffield with a BSc in Environmental Mathematics in 2014.
She is currently teaching a Teach First participant teaching in a London school. She will be joining
Bolingbroke Academy in September 2015.
I would like to wish you all a lovely weekend in the sunshine.

Next Friday is Red Nose Day. Please ensure your child has paid their £1 to come to
school in non-uniform. Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for school.
Lessons will be on as normal so they will still need their Bolingbroke portfolio / sachet
with books and pencil case for a day of fundraising and learning.
Yesterday our terrific teachers and support staff gave
pupils a real treat by dressing up as well known book
character. Pupils spent their time between lessons guess-
ing their character to gain points for their house. Thank
you to all our staff team for making World Book day such
a fun and inspiring event for all the pupils and staff!

The end of the day on Tuesday signalled the beginning of the night that
was to become the first ever Bolingbroke’s Got Talent. All of our
volunteers were geared up and ready to transform both the commons
and the sports hall. There were decorations being put up everywhere
including the great art displays that showcased the great artistic talent
we have at Bolingbroke and an uncountable amount of stars!
Time passed very quickly, the spotlights were on, the scones
had their cream and jam and our hosts had their ties on! It
was soon time for the performers to get themselves ready
for the evening's performance.
Lights, camera, action!
The night began with an introduction from our two great hosts:
Isaac Garapi and Louis Jenkin. The boys were an essential part of
the
evening, ensuring that there was a smooth transition between our
acts with a little dash of humour.
The first act was brought to us by the band:
Arthur Kergall (vocals), Daniel Firming (guitar),
Dylan Bowles (guitar) and Sam Hughes (drums.)
Act 2: Alliyah Johnson who played the acoustic guitar
Act 3: Tanisha Addicott and Olivia Scott who performed a ballet
choreographed by the pupils themselves.
Act 4: Megan Rowland who sang her version of Amy Winehouse
"Valerie"
Act 5: Alfie Balachandran who showed us is his skills on a unicycle!
Act 6: Norah Dankwah who danced to Olly Murs ‘Wrapped Up’
Act 7: Harmony Ramos who sang acoustically
Act 8: Jackson Kiernan-Clarke who jumped and spun his way around
the commons to the sound
of the Imagine Dragons.
Act 9: Destiny Nicholas-Brown who performed her own choreo-
graphed gym routine
Act 10: Jade and Ines Rostron Smith who performed a duet to music
from the film Frozen.
The top three performers were then chosen by the pupil volunteers on the
evening and the audience were asked to cast their vote during the interval (over a lovely slice of cake!) to decide
who would become the first ever winners of Bolingbroke’s Got Talent. The final count was very close but it was
Tanisha and Olivia who managed to clinch the win with their beautiful ballet performance. Well done girls!

SPELLING BEE
By Ms Khan
On Thursday 26th March, a team of six students from Bolingbroke Academy attended ARK's sixth annual second-
ary spelling bee. Thirteen schools across the ARK network came together for this event, all eager to take the
winners' trophy home.
After achieving the highest scores in the whole school spelling competition, the top two spellers from each year
group were selected to represent Bolingbroke at the ARK spelling bee. Our fantastic team included Siham Dino-
Bedry, Atticus Jackson, Jasmine Haqq, Charlie Colson, Salma Awale and James Wilson. All of them had trained
hard in the run up to the competition, practising tricky words such as 'miscellaneous,' 'pasteurized' and even
'prerogative'!
The starting buzzer round saw our team gain victory against King Solomon Academy, winning 18-10, placing Bol-
ingbroke in third place - a strong start to the competition. Round 2, the Team Relay Spell, required the whole
team to spell as many words as they could in two minutes. Our six students demonstrated great teamwork, as
they encouraged each other and worked together quickly to spell increasingly difficult words. For the final knock
out round, each school had to put forward their best speller. Year 7's Atticus Jackson was chosen by his team to
represent Bolingbroke and he did not disappoint. As the rest of the group sat on the edge of their seats and
cheered on their team mate, Atticus persevered through the final round, spelling words such as 'melancholy' and
'synchronicity,' eventually finishing third.
Overall, Bolingbroke came a respectable third in the competition, with first and second place taken by ARK Elvin
Academy and ARK Kings Academy respectively. Team Bolingbroke felt incredibly proud as they were the only
school to have consistently been in the top three after every round. The students thoroughly enjoyed the day and
hope to return next year to win the trophy!
The team just before the leave. Full of nerves
but ready with their packed lunch!
3rd place! A great result.
During the event, they
so a fantastic job.

YEAR 7 FOOTBALL vs GRAVENEY
By Mr Brooks
The year 7 Football team embarked to play a fixture against Graven-
ey school. Playing on astro-turf was a new experience for many of
the boys. Playing against a team who train on astro-turf was a chal-
lenge and Bolingbroke struggled to contain the pace of the game or
keep control of the ball. A handball in the area by a Graveney gifted
us an early penalty but we were denied by the Graveney
goalkeeper, who went on to make a number of outstanding saves
throughout the match. A powerful strike saw Graveney take a 1-0
lead and a lapse in concentration & communication saw them score
another to go 2-0 up shortly after. Bolingbroke fought back strongly and dominated a 10 minute period in
which the boys struck the woodwork twice and won 6 corners. A string of fingertip saves and dedicated
blocking by the goalkeeper and Graveney defenders saw them maintain their lead. A swift counter attack
saw Bolingbroke go into half time 3-0 down.
Bolingbroke started the second half brightly with captain Milo Rothfuss-Moore leading a resurgence and
Sunny Balogun cutting out numerous Graveney raids into our half. Sakariye Hussein gave the
opposition goalkeeper no chance with a thunderous strike into the top right hand corner after some great
link up play by Charles Rowe and Joel Rooney. Substitutes had been made at half time and made an
immediate impact with Eddie Cornwall-Jones movement causing havoc in the Graveney defence and Luca
Whitter marauding down the left hand flank at will. Graveney linked well to take the score to 6-1 and the
boys heads began to drop. Dionis Uka rallied the boys and showed great leadership to raise the drooping
heads. The boys became inspired quickly and scored two quickfire goals that came from striker Charles
Rowe and from Luca Whitter/Sakariye Hussein who both struck the ball at the same time to put it past
the keeper. Some stunning individual skill from Graveney players saw two outstanding goals before Dionis
Uka grabbed a stunning late consolation goal. The boys showed fantastic heart and commitment to continue
to fight during an 8-4 defeat, they can hold their heads high and look forwards to upcoming fixtures against
ARK Putney, Chestnut Grove, Ernest Bevin and Southfields.
CONGRATULATIONS!
To the Bolingbroke dance representatives who won the London Youth Games Wandsworth division.
They will compete against the whole of London at The London Youth Games on Friday 13th March
2015 at the Olympic Park. We wish them lots of luck at the event and well done again for such a
fantastic achievement.

The Mysterious House
By Maddy McCabe
Many years ago there used to be an old lady who lived in one of the largest houses in town. It was always thought to
be creepy. At night there was never more than one room lit at a time. She had a reputation of being moody. She had
a dislike towards children. She would very rarely leave her house to go out. No one has ever ever dared to go near it.
One day out of the blue the house came up for sale and for the first the house had visitors from out of town who were
keen to buy this unusual property. To everyone’s amazement the house was sold within a week to an unknown person.
Although, the villages had suspected that the house had been bought by the old ladies long lost son, who was rumoured
to have moved to Russia where his father was known to be. Nobody knew his name, his age, or his features.
It wasn’t until the following summer that the lorry’s arrived at the house to begin building a very tall shiny metal wall
which was two metres high and stopped anyone looking in. The next 6 months were filled with comings and goings of
lorry, round the clock building and unbelievable noise.
All the neighbours stood and watched day after day, night after night until one day it all stopped and new silence set-
tled on the village. Weeks passed again until winter came and the first snow fall arrived and the lorries began again
but this time it was to remove the shiny metal wall to reveal the most beautiful house. No one quit understood what
was going on and what the meaning of everything was. Everybody in the whole entire neighbourhood would walk past
every single day at least once. But as time went past people would stop looking at the house. Three months later,
something had changed but no one knew what it was. People knocked on the door here and there but never ever has
anyone opened the door. Except once… Two little trick or treaters rang on the old cold door bell, and after two or
three minutes the door slowly opened with a long crackle then a squeak.
No one was at the door, But the only thing that was there was a rocking chair with a string attached to the door.
There was a voice that was being spoken but it wasn’t understandable. The girls walked in and the door shut.
It was 20 minutes later and the two little girls still hadn’t come out. The house opposite suspected something. Ten
minutes later, the girls came out, looking horrified. No one noticed them except the house opposite. One of the girls
looked like they were about to say something, but didn’t. The door opened suspiciously, and randomly shut again. The
two girls wouldn’t move but as soon as they heard the door opening again, t he girl screamed ‘It’s her’ ‘She’s back’.
