Background
In academia and Nursing Education Institutions (NEI), we are
losing exceptional nurse educators…… (Fehr & Siebel 2017:67).
Most NEI's senior nurse educators are more likely to be offenders
of bullying…..
Although there has been an increasing acknowledgment that
bullying is one of the most concerning……..there has been slight
advancement in developing descriptive models.
Background
The stereotypical opinion is that bullying is deeply ingrained…..
When there is bullying amongst nurse educators, it is perceived as a
reflection of….. Birks, Stewart, and Budden in Ferh and Siebel
(2017:69)
How some nurse educators oppress others..
The "offenders of bullying might transfer the unacceptable behaviour
to students and new employees …
Background
Hutchinson and Jackson, (2015:14) suggested that it is not possible to
understand workplace bullying without…..
In general bullying originates from an individual with low esteem and low
self-concept or a weakened personal conflict.
Cyberbullying is fairly a current phenomenon……Sandy (2016:406)
Electronic bullying evidence is difficult to gather or prove……
To reduce bullying it should start………..
Problem statementp
Problem statement
Regardless of the vast research done on workplace
bullying……………
some nurse educators who were eyewitnesses of bullying
might feel…..
Unaddressed bullying challenges can lead to hidden harmful
behaviour, and an attitude of leniency and disbelief.
Workplace bullying stems from deteriorated interpersonal
conflict
Problem statement
Some identified causes of bullying are decreased levels of job
satisfaction and an autocratic leadership style.
Power in NEI's is the main distinctive component with bullying as one of
the components of NEI malfunction (Sullivan & Decker, 2018: np).
• There are believes that when NEIs does not appreciate…….
• Bullying in the workplace can be sabotaging others by ……..
• Nurse educator bullying reflects behaviour where power and position are
used as an exchange and a justification for unacceptable behavior.
Research questions
• Phase one: Situational analysis
• 1. What are Nurse Educators' nurse educators’ and stakeholders’ (NEIs’ Head
of Departments, Vice Principals’, Principals’ and managers’) lived experiences
regarding bullying in Nursing Education Institutions?
• Phase two: Model Development
• 2. What should a model for the management of nurse educator bullying in
Nursing Education Institutions consist of?
• 3. How effective is the model for the management of nurse educator bullying?
Research purpose
……. is to develop a model for the management of nurse educator bullying
in Nursing Education institutions
RESEARCH OBJECTIVES
Phase one: Situation analysis
• To explore and describe the nurse educators’ and stakeholders’ (NEIs’ Head of Departments, Vice Principals’, Principals’ and managers’) lived experiences regarding bullying in NEI.
Phase two: Model Development
• To develop a model for the management of nurse educator bullying in NEIs.
• To evaluate model for the management of nurse educator bullying in NEIs.
. Theoretical Framework
Pierre Bourdieu’s theory will be used as it is relevant, and it addresses…..
Bourdieu is a structuralism constructivism sociologist who used different
approaches of fields that influence power in societal structures.
Habitus is everyday individual lifestyle and tendencies
Bourdieu’s studies have indicated that “Power has impact in the way
society behaves……………..
According to this theory people can use power dominance or power
resistance in any field and that can result in power imbalance resulting in
bullying.
Research design and method
A transcendental or descriptive phenomenological research design
(Creswell & Poth, 2018:78). “Transcendental” means “in which
everything is perceived freshly”, or everything seems to be new and
recent, like it is for the first time” (Moustakas, 1994, p. 34).
Population; in-depth individual interview (data saturation)
non-probability, purposive sampling method….
Colaizzi’s data analysis method (Creswell & Poth 2018:201),
Trustworthiness (Lincoln & Guba, 1985)
Ethical considerations (Dhai & McQuiod-Mason, 2014)
