Get in the gameWhether you’re on the court or in the stands, you’ll feel Mount Royal’s Cougar pride. With over 100 games each year, there’s no shortage of action with our Cougars athletic teams.

Undergraduate research is a critical component of Mount Royal’s programming and is an inspiring way for students to work one-on-one with faculty. At Mount Royal, we pride ourselves on the fact that many of our faculty are active researchers. Mount Royal is a student-focused university, which means our faculty bring their research into the classroom. Whether it’s through teaching research techniques, demonstrating cutting-edge work or directly involving undergraduates in projects, you have an opportunity to be part of the process. Sonya Jakubec (pictured, right), is an associate professor in Mount Royal’s School of Nursing. Her research at the Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park investigates how the mental wellbeing of adults with disabilities (and their caregivers) is impacted by natural environments. This important project was done in partnership with Alberta Parks and the Alberta Addictions and Mental Health Research Program. Providing undergraduate students with research opportunities at the community and international level is another example of ways in which Mount Royal delivers on its commitment to being outcome focused through personalized learning and quality teaching.

With Mount Royal’s distinctive mix of foundational and professional programs, our emphasis on teaching and learning serves two purposes. It is outcome driven, with specific areas of study focused on preparing our students to pursue studies in graduate or professional schools or to excel in real-world workplaces. It also encompasses the practices of critical thinking and intellectual exploration that will empower students to “teach themselves” in every sphere of life, long after graduation.

CLINICAL PLACEMENTA clinical placement is a credit course within your program of study where you’ll gain hands-on experience in a clinical setting.

CO-OPERATIVE EDUCATION Co-operative education integrates your studies with paid work experience at a participating employer’s work site. Students who meet GPA and curriculum requirements can complete up to three Co-op work terms and graduate with up to 12 months of hands-on experience in their field of study.

DIRECTED FIELD STUDIESThis is a credit course in an applied degree program that includes one or two paid work term semesters.

At Mount Royal we want to prepare you to hit the ground running in your career and there’s no better way than giving you the chance to experience the real world while you complete your studies.

HONOURSCertain Bachelor of Arts degrees offer an honours program stream to prepare students for academic challenges associated with graduate and professional schools.

INTERNSHIPAn internship is, traditionally, four months of an employer-paid work opportunity that allows students to put their academic education into practice.

PRACTICUMIn this credit course you’ll experience hands-on learning that is linked to your academic studies.

WORK EXPERIENCEApply your classroom learning in a real-world setting with paid work experience that complements your academic studies.
