Heyward of Charlottes- yille ~ _ Charles Strother For d, 84, prominent citizen of Fairfield county, died at his home in the Mitford section Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, after an illness of one year. He was born in Chester county August 13, 1856, the only child of the late Strother Ford and Mrs. Jane McWaters Ford. When he was quite young, his parents mov- ed to the Mitford section of Fair- field county. He was educated in the county schools and at Kings Mountain Military academy at Yorkville. He married Miss Flor- ence Cornelia Culp, second daugh- ter of Colonel John Ripley Culp and Mrs. Fannie Ragsdale Culp of Chester. For many years he made his home at Chester where he was prominently engaged in the insUr- r ance and real estate business. He took a wide interest in all move- ments looking toward the advance- I ment of his section. > Many years ago he returned to Fairfield, where, as in Chester, ~ took a keen interest in the public affairs of his county. He served for eight years in the lower house of the General Assembly of Sout C.arolina, and in that capacity h did much for Fairfield. He was widely Known in legislative circles and he introduced many bills aim ed at the improvement of th county which he represented. Charles Strother For d, 84,prominent citizen of Fairfieldcounty, died at his home in theMitford section Tuesday afternoonat 2 o'clock, after an illness of oneyear.

He was born in Chester countyAugust 13, 1856, the only child ofthe late Strother Ford and Mrs.Jane McWaters Ford. When hewas quite young, his parents mov-ed to the Mitford section of Fair-field county. He was educated inthe county schools and at KingsMountain Military academy atYorkville. He married Miss Flor-ence Cornelia Culp, second daugh-ter of Colonel John Ripley Culpand Mrs. Fannie Ragsdale Culp ofChester. For many years he madehis home at Chester where he wasprominently engaged in the insUr-

ance and real estate business. Hetook a wide interest in all move-ments looking toward the advance-Iment of his section. >

Many years ago he returned toFairfield, where, as in Chester, ~took a keen interest in the publicaffairs of his county. He servedfor eight years in the lower houseof the General Assembly of SoutC.arolina, and in that capacity hdid much for Fairfield. He waswidely Known in legislative circlesand he introduced many bills aimed at the improvement of thcounty which he represented.

He was a member of the MounZion Baptist church, of which hwas clerk, treasurer and superln-tendent of the Sunday school foa number of years.
