REPAIR OF SPALLED CONCRETE USING FORMWORK GROUTING

1) Identify and demarcate area where pressure grouting is required.
2) Hack all unsound/defective or loose concrete till sound concrete. In areas where rebars are exposed, remove concrete behind rebars.
3) Feather edges shall be removed along the perimeter of the hacked area by means of a disc grinder.
4) For corroded rebars, remove loose rust scales using wire brush. Install sacrificial zinc anode at spacing about 750mm c/c. Apply anti corrosion
primer to all exposed rebars.
5) If the corrosion is severe and more than 10% of the reinforcement area has been lost, install new reinforcement by lapping to the existing rebar with
lap length of 40 x dia. Install sacrificial zinc anode at spacing about
750mm c/c. Apply anti corrosion primer to the additional rebars.
6) Clean loose dirt and dust from the prepared surface using clean water.
7) Install grout tight formwork to the prepared surface with grouting ports at about 500mm spacing and secure formwork with suitable ties.
8) Dispense clean water into formwork assembly through inlet ports using a hand grout pump.
9) Mix the prebagged shrinkage compensated flowing grout with adequate water in a mixing drum. Ensure grout achieves a homogeneous consistency
while stirring.
10) Pump grout mix into the formwork assembly through the inlet ports. Grouting shall proceed from the lower-most inlet port as soon as grout is
observed appearing from the adjacent port, lock off the first port and grout

through the adjacent inlet port. Continue grouting in sequence until the
entire formwork assembly is filled with grout.
11) Remove formwork assembly after 3 days and cure by means of wet spray or covering with wet hessians.
