They should pick a different way to practice each time. - Write Spelling Words 5 times each - Write Spelling Words in ABC Order 2 times - Write Sentences with all Spelling Words - Write Questions with all Spelling Words - Write a story using all Spelling Words - Put Spelling Words into 2 Categories (nouns/not nouns; verbs/not verbs; one-syllable/multi-syllable; etc.) - Add ‘Em Up Spelling Words (how = 8 + 15 + 23 = 46) – Students can use a calculator to help with the actual addition on longer words if needed. - Find your spelling words in an old magazine or newspaper. Cut them out and glue them on a piece of paper - Video doing a spelling bee using this week’s spelling words with a parent or older sibling. WRITING – Narrative [Must Do] This week, we will be doing some directed drawings and writings stories to go with them. 1. Remember to use complete sentences, capital letters, punctuation. Remember to add adjectives to make your sentences super sentences. TURNING IN ASSIGNMENTS - Assignments should be turned in through student portfolios on Class Dojo. - These can be a picture of the paper that the assignment is completed on. - If you do not have paper, some assignments will have an oral completion option – videos of students can be
uploaded in these instances. - Some assignments are just on the honor system (independent reading and sight word practice, for example). - Details on how to turn in each assignment will be posted below that assignment in bold and highlighted yellow.
MORNING WORK [May Do] This is a great way to get our brains warmed up for the day! Complete the Morning Worksheet below. You do not need to try to print this – you can talk through this with your student or have them write answers on a separate sheet of paper. This will not need to be turned in.

After watching the video, answer these questions: 1. How did this book make you feel? 2. Why do you think the author wrote this book? Take a picture of your answers and upload them to your portfolio. SIGHT WORD PRACTICE: 10-15 MINUTES [May Do]- Practice current Sight Word list (in Lion Binder). Parents – if your child has mastered their current list, let Ms. Hicks know – she can send you a soft copy of their next list.
READING COMPREHENSION: LEVELED READERS [Must Do] *I have put students into groups to protect privacy. I sent your child’s group to you in a private message. To access the leveled readers, use the McGraw Hill app through Classlink. 1. Open the app 2. Click the Menu button in the top left corner 3. Click “To Do” 4. This week’s assignment should be titled “Leveled Reader: May 4-7” 4. Click the picture of the book to open a pdf of the book. **We will use the same book for a week** Orange – “City Garden”

WRITING – Narrative [Must Do] This week, we will be doing some directed drawings and writings stories to go with them. SCIENCE [May Do] Basic Needs of Animals Draw a picture of your animal in their habitat. Make sure to include foods that they would eat and things they would need to live in your picture. NUMBER OF THE DAY **Braining Camp (accessed through Classlink) is a great resource for this! Students can use that and take screenshots instead of drawing if they’d like. Specifically, the hundreds chart and place value options are helpful** Students can choose which number to do: 95 or 195 Students should write the number they choose at the top of their paper and then do the following for that number: - 1 more - 1 less - 10 more - 10 less - Draw units, rods, and flats to represent (units are small squares that represent 1, rods are tall thin rectangles that represent 10, and flats are larger squares that represent 100) - ___ ones, ___ tens, ___ hundreds - Expanded form (23 would be 20 + 3) - Odd or Even - The number word **Braining Camp (accessed through Classlink) is a great resource for this!
