All About Me Ms. LanghorstMy backgroundI grew up in Yorkshire, England.

I have lived in Cyprus, Saudi Arabia, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, and now Florida.My educationI have a BA in Physical Education, BA in Elementary Education, an MA in Teaching English to Teachers of Other Languages, and I am endorsed in reading to teach reading to grades K 12. I also have a coaching license to teach soccer. I am working on my gifted endorsement.

My FamilyI am married to a wonderful husband named Tom and I have three boys. Their names are Matthew, Michael and Bryan. I have 5 grandchildren. Their names are Bella, Christian, Avery, Olivia and Luke.

My mom lives in England along with two of my brothers and my one sister. I have one brother who lives in San Diego, California.

Classroom PoliciesStudents have homework Monday Thursday Second graders will be assigned : Spelling Pyramids/SentencesReading Daily Log/Read AloudMath Daily worksheet assigned Tuesday and ThursdayExtra credit as needed*Homework will not count as a grade but be counted towards their student personal social development habits.

Classroom Policies Students are required to read at least 30 minutes every night (20 minutes in English, 10 minutes in French, Vietnamese, or Spanish). Students must keep a daily reading log accessible to teachers.

Classroom Policies Students will get points in Progress book for each assignment based on 100 point scale.

Behavior and School PoliciesSchool begins at 8:00 am. Students must be in the classroom at this time or they will be marked tardy. School ends at 2:15 on Mon., Tues., Thurs., and Fri., and at 1:15 on Wed.

When on campus for any reason, parents must sign in as visitors.

You must schedule conferences with teachers instead of dropping in. Please contact the teacher via planner, voicemail, or email.

Behavior and School PoliciesIn addition to classroom rules, children are expected to follow the OCPS Code of Student Conduct. Please refer to this manual if you have any questions about county policies. The manual includes issues like dress code, items prohibited at school, consequences, etc.

Teachers will note any behavioral issues in the student planner. Please check and sign your childs planner every night to review any concerns. Please also initial the agenda each night to indicate that your child has completed his/her homework and reading.

Teacher-Parent CommunicationYou are welcome to contact us at any time with questions or concerns. I check my voicemail and email at least once daily. I will return calls within 24 hours.Hillcrest Main Office 407-245-1770 Ext. 4253E- mail is [email protected] the case of an emergency, please contact the front office so that they can contact me immediately.You may send notes via your childs daily planner, but it is his/her responsibility to show it to me. Please do not give notes to substitutes, because I may never see them.

Classroom DonationsPTA has a fabulous program for sponsoring Hillcrest teachers. You may send in money in an envelope marked PTA Classroom Sponsorship, and you may designate to which teachers and how much money you would like to donate. As an estimate, classroom expenses can add up to approximately $25 per student per year! Thank you for donating to this effort!I am always in need of copy paper, Band-Aids, treasure box items, cool stickers, playground balls, and gently used sports equipment.

Meet the 2nd Grade Team!We organize and plan together! We collaborate to make your children as successful as they can be. Please check your students planners to keep up to date with things that are happening at school.

ReadingPlease encourage your child to read every night! They should be reading a variety of texts and real world examples. This includes commentaries, articles, and even chapters book.

ScienceMs. Gelabert, Ms. Langhorst, Ms. Lourdes, Ms. Rose and Ms. Zandi, will be working together with the reading of science and hands on activities to make science more fun.

Social Studies Social studies will be integrated into reading as much as possible and taught by Ms. Gelabert. Ms. Langhorst, and Ms. Rose.

Writing Students will be generating ideas and creating essays, poems, book reports and short stories using both the computer and cursive writing.

My GoalsTo give your children the academic and social skills needed to progress to third grade.

To provide a supportive and fun classroom environment that encourages learning.

To discover new interests and learn.

Additions VolunteersAll Hillcrest, volunteers must be an Additions Volunteer through OCPS. You must go to the volunteer.ocps.net website to fill out the on-line application. It takes less than 10 minutes to fill out and greatly helps our school.Please give the application at least two weeks to process. Please go on-line immediately so you are ready to go in time for all of our special events!

FinallyThere have been concerns over shared headsets/earphones. Please feel free to have your child bring in his/her own pair. I am utilizing alcohol to clean sets per Grace Varney, Hillcrest Health attendant.

Please use technology at home to support learning (Kids Health, Spellingcity.com, etc) and READ, READ, READ!
