"The body of work the Charrette Team was able to provide in branding andplanning for the City of Hernando was invaluable," said Susan Fernandez,Director of the Hernando Main Street Chamber. "We now have a detailedwork plan, with both short and long-term suggestions, to go along with ourstrategic plan that we can begin to implement right away."
In April 2015, the Mississippi Main Street Association was hired by the Cityof Hernando to conduct a Brownfields Redevelopment Charrette. Thecharrette was funded through a Brownfields Grant awarded to the city bythe Environmental Protection Agency and the Mississippi Department ofEnvironmental Quality. The charrette included a public visioning processand meetings with key leaders in the city. A follow-up report along with allelectronic files was provided to the city and the Hernando Main StreetChamber as a tool kit to apply for grant funding and guide implementationon the recommendations of the charrette. Community Vision Plan Charrette held inKosciusko
The City of Kosciusko hired the Mississippi Main Street Association toconduct a community vision plan charrette on Aug. 12-14.

The Mississippigroup had a lunch meeting atthe Museum of Discovery indowntown and held an electionfor the 2016-2017 ManagerRepresentative who will serveon the state Main Street board.This annual tri-stateconference draws more than200 downtown enthusiastseach year, and the stateprograms rotate hosting theconference each year.

Celebrating 10 Years of Katrina RecoveryGov. Phil Bryant announced the formation of the Katrina RemembranceCommission (KRC) in March 2015 to help mark the 10-year anniversary ofHurricane Katrina. The commission was chaired by Haley and MarshaBarbour and was co-chaired by the mayors and presidents of the boards ofsupervisors in Hancock, Harrison and Jackson counties. The commissionserved as an umbrella organization to help Mississippi Gulf Coastcommunities plan and promote events commemorating the anniversary ofthe storm. From Aug. 21-Sept. 12, events were held along the MississippiGulf Coast to celebrate 10 years of recovery.
Beginning in 2006, a Mississippi Main Street Resource Team was hired tocreate master plans in seven coastal communities (Bay St. Louis, Biloxi,Gulfport, Ocean Springs, Pascagoula, Picayune, and Waveland) devastatedby Hurricane Katrina. The resulting development has been more than $300million in these coastal towns and cities. Mississippi Main Street is honoredto have been a part of the recovery efforts.
