Class of 2019 Registration for 2018-2019 school year
So you are thinking about taking your
first AP class?
AP teachers recommend from experience the
following student traits that are necessary for
success in an AP class at NHS. Please self-reflect
and consider...
8
Personal Traits:● Self-motivated
● Reading text for understanding
● Strong written skills
● Critical Thinking
● Proactive in seeking help/getting questions answered
● Class engagement/participation
● Proactive in communicating with teachers
● Willingness to be a contributing group member for projects/labs
● Willingness to challenge yourself and have realistic expectations
● Strong test scores
● Intention of taking the AP Exam in May
● Can handle the rigor of a college class
Northville High School
Class of 2019 Registration for 2018-2019 school year
Additional points to consider:● Your entire schedule load. Ask yourself not just can you handle a
specific AP class, but can you balance/handle the entire rigor of the
schedule you are selecting?
○ We have seen many students struggle in classes because they
jump from an on-level schedule to multiple Honors/AP/IB
classes and cannot manage all of the expectations at once
● The majority of the grade earned in an AP class is based on tests
and projects/labs. Ask yourself how your grades have been
determined in previous classes? Recognize that HW, classwork,
and extra credit are NOT large parts of an earned grade in an AP
class.

5-6 AP/IB/Honors classes , starting at least by Junior year. Also, they
expect students to have completed a minimum of 2 -3 years of the same
world language. However - students do NOT need to take
AP, Honors or IB courses to go to a great college.
