APRIL 1988SPRING GREETINGS!

As President of the University Women's Club (UWC) for 1988-89, I would like toshare some thoughts with you. I became a member of UWC in 1 98 1 , when I was newto the University of Colorado. Since then, I have thoroughly enjoyed opportuni-ties to meet and to work with women from throughout our university community. Thefriends I have made, while working on a variety of projects, have had a positiveimpact, helping me to feel comfortaole in a new environment. I think other women, those who are new and those who have been here a while, could benefit as I have.

The stated purpose of UWC is to promote friendship among members, to strengthenbonds of common interest, and to encourage service within our university com-munity. Membership is open to the wives of all persons affiliated with theUniversity of Colorado at Boulder; women faculty, staff, administrators/ andalumnae. Through UWC Board approval of special memberships, we have gainedvaluable, active members who share our interest in the University of Colorado.

Members volunteer in CU-Boulder libraries and in Wardenburg Student Health Ser-vices; bake cookies for Meals on Wheels and conduct campus tours; raise money forCU-Boulder libraries and for women's scholarships. Interest groups, and you dohave to be a member to belong to one, range from French conversation andinternational foods to hiking and skiing. Special programs, open to the mem-bership, are held each year. Women who work in the home and those who hold jobsoutside the home, enjoy activities which mesh well with their individual scheclulesand interests.

UWC is trying to reach more women who would enjoy the opportunities of member-ship. Traditionally, our membership drive has been held in the fall. For theacademic year 1988-89, we are conducting that drive now. in the spring, thusallowing time to be more thorough in our efforts to reach more women. By easingthe busy load in the fall, we should at that time reach new members in ourcommunity; interest groups can begin; the directory can be published by lateSeptember and the program schedule will be in your hands.

To facilitate this new approach and to give me a chance to meet you-in manycases, to renew acquaintances-I will hold an all day open house, from 7:30 a.m.to 6 p.m.. at my home, on Tuesday, May 10, 1988. At my home, you may ask ques-tions, visit with other club members, and enjoy light refreshments. Necessaryinformation is attached. Fill out the forms, write your check, and bring these tothe open house. If you unable to attend on May 10, you may mail the completedforms and check to:

Jennifer Littlejohn, Treasurer8060 Niwot Road. #275Longmont, Colorado 80501

• Please give this information to anyone who did not receive it. Feel free to bringinterested women to the open house or give them my telephone number. Let's worktogether to spread the good news about our organization.

Sincerely,

Betty Fischer1988-89 President3930 Newport LaneBoulder, Colorado 80302447-0147
