Skill-Based TrainingMSC’s training programs are developed with input from Valley employers and their outstanding employees. In your program you will learn only the skills your future employers want you to have. Because our programs are skill-based and self-paced, you advance in your program as soon as you demonstrate a skill.

Classroom EnvironmentThe classroom environment at MSC is designed for student success. Our small class sizes mean you will receive one-on-one attention from your instructor and you will experience a rewarding collaboration with your fellow students. Working in hands-on lab environments that simulate the workplace, students gain the experience and confidence needed to get right to work after graduation.

Essential Skills TrainingEssential Skills ensures that you have a solid foundation for success in your program area. You will assess in up to seven areas relevant to your chosen training program: reading for information, applied mathematics, visual information, observation, listening, teamwork, and writing. If writing is important to the job you are training for, you may need to complete an additional writing task.

If you need support to reach industry levels, our instructors will help you bridge the gaps so you can advance to your program area as quickly as possible.

Soft Skills WorkshopsBecause hands-on job skills are just one characteristic of an outstanding employee, MSC offers Soft Skill Workshops to round out your training. Each MSC program is reviewed by an advisory board comprised of employers who describe the employability skills required in an employee. Soft Skills Workshops are tailored to meet those needs. Topics include ethics, values, diversity, communication, time management, teamwork, conflict management, and professional behavior.

Career ServicesThe Career Services Department supports students and graduates in the transition from student to employee. As you near graduation, MSC’s Career Services Job Readiness Workshop prepares you for job searching, interviewing, and resume writing. Career Services maintains job postings and employment resources, and our Virtual Career Center is available from any internet accessible location to assist you in everything related to your job search. Career Services also assists with intern/extern and apprenticeship opportunities when available. MSC graduates have lifetime access to Career Services resources.

Why MSC is Unique

“I chose the Skill Center because it’s a small school. I knew I couldn’t focus at a bigger school. I get to know everyone faster, and I get more attention from my teacher. That’s so important because it helps me manage my time.

I love everything about going to school here. If I could be a student here forever I would, because it’s so hands on, and it takes my mind away from the stress and things on my mind.” PRISCILLA OLIVASAESTHETICIAN PROGRAM

Business Office602.238.4347 | [email protected]

MSC’s Business Office maintains each student’s financial account. The Business Office determines the cost of your educational expenses in comparison with secured funding from financial aid or community resources. Students will work with the Business Office to make payment arrangements prior to the student’s program start date. In some cases, a down payment is required. MSC accepts cash, checks, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Financial Aid (includes funding such as federal grants, loans, and scholarships), and funding from community-based agencies.

Financial Aid602.238.4398 | [email protected]

MSC Financial Aid Office is available to assist students seeking federal financial assistance to cover the cost of their education. To be considered for financial aid such as grants and loans, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is completed online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Enter Maricopa Skill Center’s school code E00701 on the application.

Program CostsTuition at MSC is calculated by the number of hours you spend in class. These are called clock hours. As a MSC student you will clock in and out of your classes much like you would at a job, at a cost of $4.60 per clock hour ($5.60 per clock hour for Nursing).

Because our training programs are self-paced, students who learn quickly and demonstrate skills faster will use fewer clock hours, keeping tuition costs lower.

Tuition totals in this Career Viewbook are estimated by the average number of clock hours it takes to complete the program. The actual number of hours and tuition you will incur will depend on what pace you move through your program.

MSC’s Nursing, West-MEC Cosmetology, and Soldering programs are cohort-based and do not follow the clock hour model. These programs are assessed a flat fee for tuition.

EnrichmentBundlesEnrichment Bundles

About Enrichment BundlesMSC’s Enrichment Bundles provide students with more comprehensive short-term training than the courses alone. Enrolling in an Enrichment Bundle gives the student well-rounded skills in a specific area. The IPC® Certified Soldering Bundle even prepares students for national certification.

These course bundles are not associated with any certificate program, however students can transfer in to a certificate program if they determine they need additional training.

What ourstudents say!“I needed a career change, and I needed it fast. MSC was able to do that for me. I like how we have access to a Career Center, and they will help me clean up my resume and find a job when I’m done with my program.”

ROBERT SPENCERAUTO BODY PROGRAM

“It’s perfect not to have extra work or book work that has nothing to do with the career I want. Everything is focused on what I want to do. I love that it’s hands on, and still fun at the same time.” TY FREEMAN WELDING PROGRAM

Solar Photovoltaic InstallerSolar Photovoltaic Installers are essential to bringing solar energy to homes and businesses. They assemble, install, or maintain solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on roofs or other structures in compliance with site assessment and schematics. They may also perform minor electrical work such as current checks. As the demand for solar energy is rising rapidly, many skilled installers are in demand to meet the needs of the green technology movement.

Solar Thermal Installer and TechnicianSolar Thermal Installers and Technicians are key in expanding the use of solar-powered water heaters in homes and businesses. These workers install or repair solar energy systems designed to collect, store, and circulate solar-heated water for residential, commercial, or industrial use. As more people realize the benefits of solar energy, growth potential in this career will continue to expand.

Energy AuditorEnergy Auditors are pioneers in the field of green technology, as they identify and prioritize methods for integrating efficient means of conserving energy in buildings, building systems, and process systems. They collect and analyze data regarding energy use and make recommendations for areas to increase efficiencies to reduce energy use and cost. As more and more people begin to seek ways to maximize efficiencies and go green, they will rely on the expertise of Energy Auditors to help them integrate green technology into their homes and businesses.

Green Technology Certificates

Laser Hair Removal TechnicianLaser Hair Removal Technicians use laser technology to remove clients’ unwanted hair. This process has grown in popularity since the Food and Drug Administration approved it as a procedure that provides individuals with permanent hair reduction. The demand for this service has expanded from dermatologists’ offices into salons and spas across the world. MSC’s Laser Hair Removal Technician program trains students with state-of-the-art equipment used in these settings.
