Marie Sklodowska - Curie Actions Individual Fellowships (IF) at CNR-IMM Catania (Italy)

We invite applicants for Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowships to join our theoretical

research group within the CNR Institute for Microelectronics and Microsystems - Catania Headquartes

(Italy).

We are interested into the investigation of the design and properties of materials as well as process

simulations for, among others, micro/nano electronic devices, catalysis and photovoltaic systems.

Methodologies: first-principle ab initio calculations; molecular dynamics; structure predictions for

clusters, solid/liquid interfaces and crystals; kinetic Monte Carlo and continuum modeling.

Strongly motivated applicants with a background in condensed matter theory, computational

chemistry and scientific code development are encouraged to apply. The research project will lie in

between the candidate interests and the current host research lines.

The Institute for Microelectronics and Microsystems (IMM) has its Headquarters in Catania and is organized in 6 Sections located in Agrate Brianza, Bologna, Rome, Naples, Lecce and Catania.IMM counts 195 people as permanent staff (117 Researchers) plus temporary staff including 47 post-Docs and 61 Ph.D. students.

MM activities span from material science and process development to device fabrication and system integration, thanks to the micro-nanofabrication facilities present at the different sites (clean-room areas totaling >1400 m2). The research activities have been recently re-organized and are focused on three main application areas: Micro/Nanoelectronics, Functional materials and devices, Photonics. In addition, the competences and the facilities are coordinated into four main technological areas, Micro/Nanofabrication, Characterization, Theoretical modelling and Synthesis of advanced materials, which provide transversal support to the application areas.

The University of Turin (Italy), Department of Computer Science, is seeking a highly motivated and mobile candidate with a strong academic record holding at least a two years Master’s Degree in Computer Science o Computer Engineering and fluency in English for a 36-month, full-time Marie Skodowska-Curie Early-Stage Researcher (ESR) to work on the EC Horizon 2020 funded Marie Skodowska-Curie European Training Network (ETN) ‘EvoGamesPlus’ (see the project web site www.evogamesplus.eu).

The Early-Stage Researcher (ESR) appointed at the Computer Science Department of the University of Torino will work under the supervision of Professor Maria Luisa Sapino and Professor Matteo Sereno. The position is offered in conjunction with a PhD temporary research grant at the University of Torino, subject to satisfying admission requirements. The ESR will conduct a research project on Data-driven support to understanding of complex dynamical physical phenomena, such as epidemics.

More specifically, the focus of the research will be to develop a framework to assist decision makers, suitable for the complex dynamics of the systems interconnected under epidemic scenarios and the highly heterogeneous systems, varying in spatial and temporal scales data. The framework will then be refined, to take into account the peculiarities of complex natural and human-based systems, such sparse and noisy observations. Furthermore, efficient sampling algorithms will be developed that, with limited available simulation budget (and therefore inherently sparse model results), allow to capture the main characteristics of the dynamically evolving system of interest.

ELIGIBILITY

The expected post start date is 1 October 2021 for 3 years. The gross salary will be approximately

3.413,88 €/month, plus a mobility allowance of 600 €/month and, if due, a family allowance of 500 €/month.

As part of the application process, candidates will be required to submit:
