Many of the survivors of the recent shooting, at a Bible Study at a black church by a white man, talked about having forgiven the shooter. HOW could they for-give the man who killed their friends and family members? Our 2015 Lenten presentation by Fr. Ken Schmidt on forgiveness may help you under-stand forgiveness, what it IS and what it is NOT, and help YOU forgive someone who has hurt you. DVDs of the talks are available from the parish office, weekdays 9am-7pm, and Sundays 9am-2:30pm. You can borrow it for one week. Keep accompanying study sheets for continued thought and prayer.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word (at the 8:45am Sunday Mass), will resume in Sep-tember. Make sure your child gets a children’s bulletin from the church vestibule.

A big THANK YOU to the 26 families that have pledged to the Bishops Annual Appeal in the last few weeks. To date, 258 families have made sacrificial pledges of $82,881.93 to this very important cause, towards our parish goal of $121,346.00, leaving us with a remaining balance of $38,464.07 to attain our goal. Please prayerfully consider what you may do to make this campaign a success. Remember, any amount that we raise above our goal is returned to the parish. Likewise, if we fail to meet our goal, the deficit comes out of parish funds.

17th Sunday

Ordinary Time “Eucharistic Overshadowing ”

(John 6:1-15 )

The miracle of the loaves and fishes is directly connected with the discourses at Capernaum where Jesus reveals Him-self to us in the Real Presence as “the bread of life” (6:35, 48). The multiplication takes place when “Passover was near” (v4), similar to when the Last Supper took place (Mk 14:12). In verse 11 Jesus “took…gave thanks, and distribut-ed…” The Greek for “give thanks” is ‘eucharisteo’ which gives us the word Eucharist. This same Eucharistic over-tone appears again in verses 12-13 where, interesting enough, the fish are no longer mentioned. Jesus speaks ex-clusively of the bread and the care to be taken with remain-ing fragments. In verse 15, St. John points out the crowd had failed to understand what just happened since they wanted “to make him King.” Jesus fed the people bread for their bodies; Moses did the same with manna in the desert, but the ultimate “sign” (v14) of this miracle points to Jesus as the Bread of Life, particularly in the Eucharist.

Migrant Ministry! Items needed for migrant farm workers and their fami-lies will be collected until mid August at St. Thomas More Parish office, M-F, 9-noon and 1-5pm. Items most needed include nonperishable food (flour, cereal, rice, pinto beans, sugar, oil, peanut butter, tomato paste, corn meal); glass-es, dishes, large pots and pans; toiletries for in-fants, children and adults; linens; clothing for all ages, especially jeans, shorts, cotton/cotton-blend shirts, and work boots for men. Please do not leave items outside the door at St. Tom's.

New bookmobile sponsored by Migrant Hispanic Ministry of Holy Family Healthcare [a 501(c)(3) non-profit healthcare ministry] will visit migrant camps this summer. They espe-cially need children’s books in Spanish and English, and any Spanish language books or newspapers. Please donate books for the bookmobile (there’s a box in the

church vestibule). Monetary donations can be made at Holy Family’s website: www.holyfamilyhealthcare.org.

(Please contact Barb Ogrin, 269-870-5369, with any questions or concerns)

This week we thank our Monday morning church cleaning crew. This dedicated group of volunteers cleans the church after Monday morn-ing Mass, vacuuming, and straightening things up in the church. They also make sure there are the right amount of song books and response cards in each pew. Thank you for keeping things neat and clean for us! Feel free to join them any Monday after mass.

Registration forms for the 2015-16 year will be available on Aug. 1 in the parish office or through our website (see above). Despite rising costs of nearly everything we use, we have been able to keep the fees for our program down. Cost for one student is still only $50. Additional students are $25. The max for a family is $100.

Catechists Needed (Important): The success of our program relies on many things. One of the most im-portant is our catechists. Without them, our program simply could not be. Sadly, we may be facing this problem for some of our classes next year. We are still in need of catechists in key areas. If you have any interest in serving in this wonderful role, please contact me TODAY!

Confirmation and First Communion: Sacrament preparation is a two-year program. To be Confirmed or receive Communion in May of 2016, your student needed to attend class during the 2014-15 year. Stu-dents wishing to be Confirmed or receive Commun-ion in May of 2017 must enroll in classes this fall or begin homeschooling.
