STEWARDSHIP IS…

It is difficult to teach or prac ce stewardship, unless we have a clear understanding of exactly what steward-ship is. If we wish to embrace stewardship, we must gradually learn to embrace every defini on or aspect of stewardship. This week, here are five defini ons of Stew-ardship. Which ones touch your heart or your life? • Scripture Based All of the teachings of stewardship

come directly from the Gospels, the Old Testament and the le ers of the New Testament. Stewardship is not a new fad, or environmental word. Stewardship is the way God has expected His people to live since the beginning of me.

• Dependence on God Stewardship is recognizing that everything we have is a gi from God. We can take credit for nothing. Everything we have and everything we do is a result of some gi that God has placed into our hands.

• Gra tude Stewardship is living a life of gra tude – taking the me every day to recognize the gi s that God has given and to be grateful for them.

• Giving Back Stewardship is returning a por on of our gi s to God. The gi s we return are our me, our talent and our treasure. We return these gi s not be-cause God or our Church needs them but because we feel an overwhelming need to show our love and gra tude to God.

• Transforma ve Stewardship is transforma ve. Once we embrace the stewardship message it changes the way we look at every decision we make. Stewardship becomes a total way of life.

Stewardship is what God Calls Us to Do! To be a giv-ing people. The concepts of giving God our “first fruits” and of thing a fair percent were first men oned in the Old Testament. About half of Our Lord’s parables ad-dress the proper use of our recourses and Jesus talks about money five mes more than He talks about pray-er. Generous giving is fundamental to our faith tradi-

on. As the US Catholic Bishops' write in their Pastoral Le er on Stewardship, Stewardship: A Disciple's Re-sponse, "Once one chooses to become a disciple of Jesus Christ, stewardship is not an op on."
