3M HISPANIC PROFESSIONAL NIGHTOn November 13th 2007 3M hosted the Hispanic Professional Night (HPN), in which Inge Thulin, Executive Vice-President of International Operations, was the featured keynote speaker. Inge engaged the audience talking about 3M’s leadership attributes, what takes to be a leader. 3M hosted the HPN at their new Innovation Center that allows visitors to experiment themselves with 3M’s technologies.

GENERAL MILLSHISPANIC PROFESSIONAL NIGHT

On Wed, Oct 24, 2007, General Mills hosted a Hispanic Professional Night at its World Headquarters in Golden Valley, MN. Attendance was approximately 175, with networking sessions that preceded and followed the keynote address. The event was headlined by a keynote

address from General Mills’ Chairman of the Board and former Chief Executive Offi cer, Steve Sanger. Sanger stepped down as CEO on September 24, 2007 after a 12-year tenure, during which he presided over a threefold increase in earnings and a total return to shareholders of 10% annually over that period.

After a welcome and introduction by 2007 Executive Vice-President (and General Mills employee) Carlos Perez, Sanger opened his address by recognizing the accomplishments of the Minneapolis/St. Paul chapter, which had recently been named the #2 Chapter in the country. He also talked at length about Mills’ commitment to the local chapter, which dates back to chapter inception. Sanger addressed three big challenges facing General Mills. Sanger addressed brand building, innovation, and successful global expansion as three key challenges facing General Mills.

Feedback from members was especially positive after the event. Despite the stellar year posted by General Mills last year, it was relevant for members to hear how they can help address the real-life problems facing the company from someone with Sanger’s perspective.

The event also featured three Grand Prize giveaways, as local NSHMBA members won Free Cereal for 1 year courtesy of General Mills.

TARGET H I S PA N I C P R O F E S S I O N A L N I G H TTarget was proud to sponsor NSHMBA Professional Night on Thursday, December 6, 2007. The event was held at Target Headquarters in downtown Minneapolis with approximately 90 attendees, including Target Team members and NSHMBA members. This event gave local NSHMBA members an opportunity to learn more about Target as well as network with Target Team Members. Greg Cunningham, Group Manager Marketing Planning, presented Target’s strategy to attract and market to the Hispanic guest.

The room was branded with cocktail tables identifying the different areas within Target. Each attendee

received a Target gift bag with a variety of branded items including private labels - Choxie and Archer Farms. NSHMBA Members networked with Target Team Members from over 15 different areas of the organization. Target even hired a NSHMBA member for their Target Financial Services area!

Target is a proud sponsor of the National and Local NSHMBA organization and excited to be the

Lead Sponsor of the National conference coming to Minneapolis in 2009.

SUPERVALU ¡Ay, qué rico! The NSHMBA Minneapolis-St. Paul Chapter and friends celebrated an evening of networking at SUPERVALU’s Latin Feast event on Friday, July 27th at The Bluffs at Nine Mile Creek.in Eden Prairie. The purpose of the event was to bring together our student and experienced professional membership base with Hispanic professionals from all fi elds, other friends, corporate sponsors and the Chapter Board.

By targeting this event to Hispanic Professionals in general, we also attracted several “non-MBA” Hispanic Professionals (entrepreneurs, lawyers, educators and engineers) from the Twin Cities area interested in learning more about NSHMBA and its members. Jim Smits, VP of Fresh Food Merchandising at SUPERVALU, spoke to the attendees and explained that SUPERVALU is working to return consumers to the kitchen for “quick fi x” meals. Attendees were treated to a demonstration by noted local chef, Amalia Damgaard, who prepared dishes that could be replicated at home in 20 minutes or less.

Good speakers, networking, followed by delicious Latin food and a raffl e for Carlita brand baskets topped-off the night.

Keep an eye on our online Calendar, as we are planning on having more Hispanic Professional Networking Events during 2008. Come join us!

GALA 2007On November 3, 2007, we celebrated our 7th annual gala with our corporate sponsors, university partners and individual members. The gala co-chairs, Lynn Snyder and Dr. Kathryn Johnson from the University of Minnesota, worked hard to create a memorable evening for all attendees. Each year, the gala is an excellent way for members and sponsors to celebrate, network and learn more about Minneapolis-St. Paul Chapter initiatives. In fact, this year will present a unique opportunity for our corporate partners and Minnesota students. In 2008, all companies at the Silver, Gold or Platinum sponsorship levels will have an opportunity to present a scholarship at the gala to a Minnesota-based NSHMBA student. All gala proceeds are dedicated to the NSHMBA scholarship fund. In 2007, our chapter raised over $40,000 towards the fund. In addition to board, sponsorship, and scholarship recognition, last year’s gala included great entertainment by our emcee and chapter advisor, Isaias Zamarripa, and a Latin band and dancers. We also raffl ed several prizes from our corporate sponsors, including three First Class round-trip tickets from our lead sponsor, Northwest Airlines. Thank you to everyone involved for making the gala such a great success. For more information on event details and sponsorship opportunities visit http://msp.nshmba.org or email [email protected]
