The rather untouched, mountainous La District is known for its cultural diversity and therefore ideal for visiting ethnic villages. The District center of Muang La, located only 28 Km from Xay Town on the Nam Phak River, is a natural and cultural hot spot in Northern Laos and one of the favorite attractions of Joe Cummings, author of the Lonely Planet guide book. Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere in both Kmhmu and Akha villages and discover traditional architecture, ethnic food and lifestyle.

Both Provincial and District Tourism Information Centers offer several package tours in Muang La, especially interesting for those who want to discover the real life of Laos’ ethnic people, culture, traditions and lifestyle while at the same time visiting some of the district’s best attractions, including Phachao Singkham Temple with its 400 year old Buddha images, traditional salt mining near hot springs, Nam Kai Waterfall and Phachao Singkham Buddha Cave.

Package 1 - 1 day program

Package 2 - 3-days, 2 nights CBT program

Experience the peaceful life along the river, including cultural, ethnical activities and natural attractions. On the way to Muang La you will have the opportunity to visit Samakkhixay Village for a pleasant two-hour walk to Phachao Singkham Buddha Cave where the Pha Singkham Buddha statue was hidden during the Indochina War.

This community based trekking tour is designed for those who want to discover the real life of Kmhmu people in Muang La as well as visit some of its best natural attractions. On this tour you will spend two nights in two different Kmhmu villages, providing you extensive opportunities to learn about their cultures, traditions, lifestyle and handicrafts. On this slightly challenging trek you will pass several attractions like the Phachao Singkham Buddha Cave, a pristine forest area and Houay Kai Waterfall. On the way, local guides will explain about traditional hunting methods, share knowledge on the secrets of medicinal plants and also provide details on agricultural practices.
