ELECTRONIC MUSCLE STIMULATORAbstract:

This project deals with electronic muscle stimulationneuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES)or electromyostimulation.

EMS basically comprises of a unit that passes theelectric current to the specific muscles through wiresand electrodes that are attached to the skin.

This stimulates the nerves and contracts the musclesof the body where ELECTODES are attached

CIRCUIT CONNECTIONS

The system has TWO units: Muscular Stimulator circuit Timer circuit

Muscular Stimulator circuit:Muscular Stimulator circuit comprises of IC 7555

IC 7555 is used as astable multivibrator to generate Squarepulses of 80Hz frequency

The output of this IC1 is fed to the Transistor T1 and its Emitteris connected to Base of T2 through R3 and VR1

The pulse applied to the secondary of the Transformer and the60V o/p is obtained from the Primary side using Electrodes

WORKING :When IC1 acts as astable multivibrator and produces 80HZ

pulseThe transformer is driven by these pulses to produce highvoltage at its PRIMARY terminals

It converts the 3V DC voltage to 60V AC voltage using the

pulses

Diode In40007(D1) protects T2 against high voltage pulsestransformer

Intensity of current sensing at electrodes is controlled bypotentiometer VR1 and indicated by LED1

ART OF DIRECTING:Two electrodes are taped to the skin of the chosenmuscle.

When the muscular stimulator is ON, the knob ofVR1 is slowly rotated until the person feels the

itching sensation.

Simultaneously, the timer circuit is switched ON.

TIMER CIRCUITTIMER CIRCUIT uses IC NE555 wired in monostable modeWhen S2 is ON it produces Triggers and its o/p goes high for

10 minutesThe o/p goes low to give a BEEP SOUND from Piezobuzzer

and lights up the red LED indicating that stimulation time is over

o Timer circuit is powered by a 9V DC battery in the samecabinet as the STIMULATOR.

o Depending upon the values of the capacitors used, thetiming cycle of the capacitor varies.

o At the end of timing cycle, the capacitor startsdischarging and activates the LED2 and piezo buzzer to give abeep sound.
