MULBERRY STREET UNITED METHODIST CHURCH May 27, 2018 www.mulberrymethodist.org JUMPING IN TO SAVE! I don’t know whether you have seen the viral video of the dog jumping in the swimming pool to save another dog that was struggling to stay above water, but you should see it! You can find it on the internet by searching “Dog Jumps in Pool to Save His Friend”. The saving dog jumps in the pool and uses his head to push the struggling dog out. I can understand how this video has gone viral. I bet your reaction to it will be the same as mine - unbelievable and simply amazing! We might expect such heroic feats from humans, but from a dog? It proves the value of the bonds of friendship and love, even in the animal kingdom. As I watched the video several times, I thought about two things - God jumping in to save us, and our call to jump in and help others to safety! The video is interesting. At first, the saving dog paces back and forth at the edge of the pool, trying to help the struggling dog from outside the water. When that doesn’t do the trick, he jumps in the pool and pushes the struggling dog out of the water. Jesus could have saved us without “jumping in”, but He emptied himself and took on human form to do something for us that we couldn’t do for ourselves. The Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20) reminds us that we are to do the same for others. We can try to help them from the pool deck, but, like the dog, the right way (effective way) is to get into the pool with them! That’s our job! So, let me ask you - how willing are you to jump in? If you could save just one drowning person, would you take the plunge? I know one black lab who would and did! Blessings,
