A Little Bit About Us

• We are team of folx committed to providing programming, services and resources for the four UI Cultural Centers providing a “Home Away From Home” atmosphere for historically minoritized and International students

• The Centers and International Student Support provide intra-and cross-cultural education, leadership opportunities, organizational development opportunities, and social justice education

• The Centers and International Student Support compliment the academic mission of the University by enhancing the student experience inside and outside of the classroom

IOWA EDGE• The Iowa Edge is an extended orientation program

for selected African American, Alaskan Native, American Indian, Asian American, Pacific Islander, Latinx, and first generation college students.

• Peer Leaders are trained to provide a person-centered, community-centered orientation to university life the week before classes begin for students who face challenging issues of transition. Iowa Edge peer leaders directly address and positively impact these students’ rates of persistence, retention, and graduation.

The Advantage Iowa Award

• The Advantage Iowa Award is given to students from historically underrepresented populations

• Chat with your academic advisor about a First-Year Seminar, Honors First-Year Seminar or College Transition course

• AI scholars are assigned an Academic Coach who they meet with their first year

• Questions regarding Award Letters can be directed toward the Office of Student Financial Aid

How to Retain Advantage Iowa Award Eligibility

• Maintain a 2.0 UI cumulative GPA and 2.0 semester GPA each semester• Maintain continuous full-time enrollment• Successfully complete 12 or more s.h. each fall and each spring• Meet with your Academic Advisor 3 times your first semester and 2 times

the following semester if in CLAS• Meet with CDE Academic Coach or TRIO SSS Student Success Coach

once in your first semester and once in your second semester• Successfully complete a First-Year Seminar, Honors First-Year Seminar,

or College Transition course in your first semester of enrollment• File your FAFSA every year by the priority deadline of December 1
