Running from bulls. Henna tattoos. Walking on hot coals. Turkey Day. Shoes off in the house. Head covered in public. Lighting black, green and red candles. Spiders on the Christmas tree. Breaking dishes. Hunting eggs. Celebrating New Year’s with lentils.
Clearly, there’s more than one way to experience the world.

Embracing difference. Learning from others. Expressing yourself.
That’s the magis.
People at SJU come from all over the United States and 33 countries. We have different traditions, different beliefs and different ways of looking at the world. What do we have in common? The desire to live greater.
Here are just a few of the ways you can celebrate your own culture and learn about others at Saint Joseph's.
Are you multi-culturally literate?

Academics
Study Abroad Semester, summer or SJU faculty-led study tours in Ghana, South Africa, China, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, England, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Belgium, El Salvador, Chile, Argentina and more.
Service (at home and abroad) Service is not required at Saint Joseph's. Even so, hundreds of our students participate in service-learning and social justice programs, both in the U.S. and abroad. You might serve in Philadelphia through Freshman Urban Plunge, build homes in Appalachia, campaign for health care in developing nations, empower communities in Ecuador, build schools in Guatemala or study economic and social conditions on a Native American reservation.
