ALPHA Fall Accomplishments

ALPHA had a very successful Fall semester. One of the

organization’s notable achievements was the showing of

the movie 12 Years a Slave, in October. The reason

ALPHA took on this project was due-to-the-fact that the

movie was not

distributed to the

Adrian Cinema.

Approximately 50

students, faculty,

staff and commu-

nity members were in attendance. After the viewing

Monique Savage, Director of the Counseling Center,

and Rev. Chris Momany held a discussion.

The first week of the semester ALPHA and AC Culture

Club held their Annual Welcome Back BBQ for new

and returning students. The event provided a meal and

getting to know each other activities. Students were

given some cultural questions and those with correct

responses won prizes!

The Annual ALPHA Talent Show was held in Novem-

ber and was attended by almost 200 students and staff.

International Student, Nick (Shunbin) Yao won first

place with a rendition of Mrs. Jones.

ALPHA has selected the Lenawee County Habitat

for Humanity organization as its Spring 2015 Gift

of Life Charity. This semester funds collected from

its various fundraising efforts will be donated to

help Habitat for Humanity revitalize the Adrian

Community.

ALPHA will work closely with Adrian College’s

Student Habitat for Humanity Group to raise

funds for this worthwhile community endeavor.

The Gift of Life will be held on April 11, 2015

cludes Hawaiian, Mexican, Greek, French, German, Cu-

ban, Puerto Rican, Polish, and a dozen other dishes from

Alexander will provide a Jamaican dish.

A big thank you to our sponsors: The Institute for Study

Abroad, FinCom, Sodexo, the Office of Multicultural

Programs, AC Culture Club and the Institute for Creativity.

We hope to be able to serve 300 students, faculty and staff .

If you have not yet participated we encourage you to

share a dish from your own cultural or ethnic back-

ground!

Jackson, who graduated in May and is now a teacher at Onsted High School, served as the Salsa instructor. Stephanie

Boehringer and Ms. Basch (may graduates) assisted Mr. Jackson. The event was co-sponsored by FinCom and Multi-

dance and made the Piñata that was filled with international candies from the United Kingdom, Canada and Mexico.

AC Culture Club Presents: Chavez: The Movie

The Culture Club will have a special showing of the movie Cesar Chavez on March 31, 2015, at 6pm in Knight Audito-

A discussion will follow and will include individuals who actually worked with the Farmworker’s movement and

those who participated in the Grape boycott.
