Purpose and Audience
Purpose• Why are you doing it?• What is the key
message you are trying to get across?
• Are you mainly trying to give information, or to entertain?
Audience• Who is going to be
watching your presentation?
• How old are they?• How well can they
read?• What do they already
know about the subject?
Good and Bad Presentations
Good• Be easy to read• Be easy to understand• Have a clear beginning,
middle and end• Take into account the
needs of the intended audience
Bad• Misspelled words• Background pictures that
make text difficult to read• Too much information on
a slide• Fancy font in colours that
are hard to read• Anything which makes it
hard for the intended audience to get the message!
Understanding your Audience
People in the audience – Who are they?Understand – Will they understand the words,
sounds and images used?Read – Will they be able to read the content?Planned – Have you planned how to talk about the
content?Offend – Will any of the content offend the
audience?Simple – Have long, complicated words been used
when there are easier ones?Effective – Are the text, images and sound clear
and effective
Peer Assessment
• You are going to assess all of the presentations and award a mark. You are asked to judge them against two criteria: Quality of the presentation and Content of the presentation.
• Once you have uploaded your work view other pupils work and give formative comments.
Assessment Criteria
• Quality means: consistent background, consistent font, good use of colour, good use of bullet points, not too much information on one slide, appropriate images, appropriate sounds.
• Content means: the information in the presentation – is it easy to understand? Is it interesting? Does it answer the questions posed at the start of the project?
