Goss From The Boss Our leaders are a very real reflection of our school. Over my 6 years at Mulwaree, our student leaders have stood out as great role models who have been involved in the school and community. Our 2016/17 leaders are no exception. I have every confidence that the school is in good hands with leaders who are respectful,

responsible and willing to take the opportunity to show the school in a good light. Last Friday was our annual induction day. Whilst it was sad to see our 2015/16 leaders depart, it was wonderful to see the enthusiasm of our new leaders. Our students continue to succeed in a variety of ways. At the recent Conservatorium Public Speaking Eisteddfod, Hannah Cudaj (Year 11), Joe Charbaji (Year 8) and Isabella Roberts (Year 7) all received awards. Hannah gained 2 firsts, Joe a first and second

placing and Isabella, second placings in the prepared and impromptu speeches sections. This is an outstanding achievement. Our school gained equal first in the teams section. Further achievements of note are the 4 students who have been selected for the South Coast Music Camp. They are Madisyn Nguyen, Darcy Lamb, Logan Wong and Bryn Wood. This is combined with the fact that Eliza Patatoukos was selected for the State Music Camp as well as being the No 1 flute player at Southern Stars last week. Darcy was also selected for Southern Stars and performed in his usual eclectic style. Also on music, a great number of our students busked last weekend in Goulburn. The Bensley boys, Tom and Lachlan, took out the major award. The school is hopping and with our girls hockey team about to compete in the State finals. We have a great deal of which to be proud. Hungry for a good cause Mulwaree High took part in the World Vision 40 Hour Famine on 19-21 August, with eight students teaming up and raising over $1000 for this important cause. Our teachers and students applaud those who took up the challenge to raise awareness and much-needed funds to help fight global hunger. Almost half a billion people around the world are currently facing food shortages or starvation. The worst drought in 50 years grips southern and east Africa and 300 million people in India face food shortages because of drought. Hunger and malnutrition is the world’s number one health risk. Miss Schabel (pictured), who coordinated the 40 Hour Famine, said: “I did a number of 40 hour famines when I was younger and sponsored a child named Luis in Ecuador with my sister. I had the great experience of visiting Luis in 2010. I spent the day in the village seeing all of the important work that World Vision had done for the local community. It’s wonderful to see students here at school taking up the challenge to help people doing it tough in other countries too.” To find out more about the 40 Hour Famine, including to make a donation to the Mulwaree team, visit 40hourfamine.com.au.

Drama Ensemble Congratulations to Sophie Linton, who has secured a place in the 2016 State Drama Ensemble. During the school holidays the State Drama Ensemble will work with their tutor, Andrew O’Callaghan and industry professionals at The Arts Unit in Sydney to devise a piece for the State Drama Festival on 20 & 21 October at the Seymour Centre. 15s Girls Basketball Success!! The 15s girls basketball team travelled to Bombaderry Basketball Stadium last week to participate in the Final 8 series for the South Coast region. Traditionally, the competition is played using a knockout format, however, after a number of teams withdrew, the remaining group was split into pools to contest the title of South Coast Champions. The Mulwaree girls firstly played Monaro, comfortably winning 43-9. Their second game saw

them taking on a determined Nowra team, and after a slower than anticipated start, it was the Mulwaree girls who came out on top 31-8. These wins ensured a spot in the final against Karabar. This game would determine who would advance with a higher seed into the CHS component of the event. Karabar used their physicality to their advantage, rushing out to a lead that unfortunately the Mulwaree girls could not close. In the end it was Karabar who came out on top 30-16. Mulwaree now advances to the next round as

the South Coast B side – well done girls and

goodluck.

Additionally, a big thank you must go out to those parents and

grandparents who provided transport and support for the day.
