1.ARTIST BACKGROUNDThe artist behind the painting ‘Jaw Dropping Beauty’ is Chua Chi Yan.
She came second in the ‘Painting on Site’ category in Laman Seni Seksyen 7 and is currently a design student in Taylor’s University.
2.DESCRIPTION OF THE MURAL ART
‘Jaw Dropping Beauty’ is a mural painting that aims to opens the public eye to the endangerment of hippopotamus
as poachers hunt them down for their teeth, the newest alternative to ivory.
HOW Does THE ARTIST POTRAYs
HIS MESSAGE ?
BY CREATING A PLAYFUL AND FUN MURAL PAINTING that grabs people’s attention and have them to appreciate the
beauty of animals and not abuse them for our own good. the artist also uses augmented reality effect to make the
mural more interactive and colourful.
3.The concepts
1.closure - we see the empty space
and automatically our our minds merges that void into the
artwork itself. !
! 2.SELECTIVE ATTENTION -The Mural focuses our attention to the gaping mouth,which is where the focus of the artwork lies.
3.PERCEPTION -THE Large,friendly shape,intruiging font and smartly used extrusion makes it ‘fun & interactive’. ! 4.conflict
-the large comical artwork is in conflict with the message.
5.language -The language conveys both
literal and metaphorical meaning,jaw dropping and the hippo’s jaw.
MURAL ART 2:‘QUIT SMOKING’
1.ARTIST BACKGROUNDThe artist behind the 3D installation ‘Quit Smoking’ is Syafiq Rasyid Bin Abdul Jalil. !!Syafiq Rashyid Abdul Jalil’s creativity in his 3D installation piece ‘Quit Smoking’ earned him the top spot and RM8,000 prize money. !!!!
2.Description of the Mural Art
‘Quit Smoking’ is an 3D installation piece that aims to open up the smoker’s eye as to how harmful smoking is and how it
can affects a smoker’s life and even worse, their loved ones.
by creating a 3D lung ashtray placed on the wall that depicts
the repulsing image of their lung every time a smoker finish
their cigarettes.
HOW does THE ARTIST POTRAY HIS MESSAGE ?
3.THE CONCEPTS1.subjective perception
-the color black here indicates the lung failure of a smoker
which is darkened by the nicotine and tobacco
within the cigarettes. !
2. non-verbal messages -The other half failed lung
depicts how cigarettes will cause fatal destruction to a smoker’s health
and could ruined his life.
3.conflict the contrast between the
healthy and the damaged lung creates a conflict between between
non-smokers and smokers.
4.mass communication -the clear and distinctive message is being projected in a public space
to the masses.
5.intercultural communication -The contrast of the smoker and the non smoker create a sense of dialogue between a non-smoker
and a smoker’s culture.
MURAL ART 3:‘SINGLE MOTHER’
1.ARTIST BACKGROUNDThe artist behind the mural painting is Kenji Chai who was born and raised in the Sandakan,Sabah and currently lives in Kuala Lumpur. !His works includes the use of cute !and vibrant characters with his main medium being graffiti combining elements of pop culture,fictional censorship and a positive mental attitude,in all he creates layered scenes of mischief.
2.DESCRIPTION OF THE MURAL ART
‘Single Mother’ is a mural painting aims to potray a mother’s unconditional love to provide the best for her child despite the high living cost. besides that,
the artwork also introduces the malaysian culture as well as the origin of orang utan.
HOW does THE ARTIST POTRAY HIS MESSAGE ?
BY creating a painting of an orang utan carrying her offspring while trying to
survive in the high cost of the concrete junge, metaphorically potraying the
struggle and burden of a single mother in malaysia.
3.the concepts1.physical appearance
-The mother orang utan has an expression of fierceness mixed with determination on her face.
As she reaches for the bananas, the disorganized array of baby needs are
contributing points of emphasis to her physical appearance.
2.movement -The body posture such as the outstretched arm
and scattered objects create a sense of dynamism. !
3.space and proximity -The mother and child orang utan are huddled close together,
signifying a close maternal relationship.
4.conflict -Depicts the battle of a single mother against the
everyday challenge of raising a child in an urban environment. !
5.perception A sombre mood conveyed through faded colours and serious expressions of the orang utan.
