About me

I graduated from Columbus State University in 2012This summer, I also graduted from Walden University with my Masters Degree in Elementary Education.

My Husband, Travis and I love to spend our summers at the beach!This is our dog Max! He loves being out on the water with us. My favorite subject to teach is science!

Goals

Get to know each of my students and begin creating a classroom community.Build confidence and recognize students for success, no matter how great or small!Lastly, I want every parent to feel involved in their childs learning.

What will your child learn this year?

In Language Arts/Reading:

Reading Wonders is our new textbook. It includes both language arts and reading.In this new series, there is an online component that can be used as a home resource. The website below is the reading wonders student login page. http://connected.mcgraw-hill.com/connected/login.doIn this site they can view weekly stories and other educational materials. Login information is located in the links section on the class web page. Students will learn:To summarize, compare and contrast reading materialTo recognize and distinguish between fiction and nonfiction reading materialTo identify main ideas and supporting details in written material

What will your child learn this year?

In Mathematics: Envision is our new common core math book series. https://www.pearsonsuccessnet.comThe series is more interactive and the kids have the opportunity to practice with online manipulatives in the classroom. There is also an online component that can be found on my website.Students will learn:Place value of larger numbersAddition and subtraction of larger numbersElapsed timeMultiplication and divisionFractionsProblem solving strategies for word problems Geometry area and perimeter

Grading Scale

Grades will be as follows:A = 100 to 90B = 89 to 80C = 79 to 70F = 69 and belowStudents will receive numerical grades in science, social studies, math, language arts, and reading. They will receive a letter grade for conduct(S,N,U). Assessments count 60% and Classwork counts 40%

Testing

We will give SLO testing two times.Benchmark testingGeorgia Milestones is the new CRCTStudents will take the GA Milestones in Math and Reading/ Language Arts.CRCT will still be given for Science and Social Studies. Mobymax.com is a wonderful website to use in preparation for testing. The log in information is on our class web page under links.

Class DojoReinforces positive behavior in the classroom and helps to engage students in the learning process. Dojo Messenger and the comment section allow me to communicate with parents when needed on a class basis or private message. You may also contact me through this program, and it sends in the form of a text message directly to me. Specific positive reinforcement helps students develop a sense of purpose in the classroom, enhancing motivation over time. Class Dojo makes it easy to communicate behavior instantly and creates a channel of communication on a daily basis. If you have not signed up yet, activation codes are in your parent packet.

How will the school communicate your students progress and activities with you?

Daily AgendaInfinite Campus Parent Portal (More information about obtaining your activation key will follow)Progress reports are sent home with students at the midterm of every nine weeks. Report cards are sent home with students every nine weeks. The teacher will send notes, emails, and make phone calls as needed to communicate with parents. What does the school expect from your child?

Behave appropriately- Follow classroom, school, and cafeteria rules and procedures. Complete all assignments neatly and completely. Complete and return homework and materials sent home. Sign Reading log daily (located in daily agenda). Come to school equipped to learn and have fun.

How can parents help students to succeed in third grade?

Monitor students Accelerated Reading progress toward nine weeks goal. Review homework and blue take home folder. Help your child keep his/her binder organized.Encourage your student to read 20-30 minutes every night. Students will need to record their reading time and get it signed starting next week.Practice addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts at home with flash cards. Homework

Homework packets will be sent home in Spelling, Language Arts, and Math. The work will need to be completed throughout the week and is due back each day for review.Spelling test will take place on Friday of each week Please contact me if there is a question about the homework. I will meet with you or your child to answer any questions.

How can parents help their child with homework?

Monitor and sign your childs nightly reading log. Students should read each night for 20-30 minutes. Please check both your childs agenda book and red folder daily for any important papers, notes, or comments. Provide your student with a quiet study time and area. Encourage independent work but also review the homework with your child when finished.

Room Parents

Room parents help with coordinating parties and special events.PTO also asks room parents to further communicate information with classroom parents throughout the year. See me if you are interested!
