Inspired by synesthesia, Blair Gallacher’s work examines the crossover between senses and the ways in which we interpret, understand, and feel consciousness. Resulting are pieces that work as visual manifestations of extraneous sensory data. This series specifically uses songs as the subjects for one artist’s works that she has nicknamed “trigger paintings.” Exhibit Dates: Saturday, September 1 to Saturday, November 10, 2018.

OCTOBERWET: A DACAmented Journey is the story of what it means to be an American in every sense of the word except for one: on paper. It chronicles the story of Anner Cividanis’ journey of living his whole life in the United States as an undocumented American.

The fifth first annual Polkapocalypse, starring Brave Combo, will feature several polka bands that will rock the boots off your lederhosen with a crazy mix of Tejano, Czech, German, Honky Tonk, Gypsy, and Norteño sounds! There will also be a costume contest so come dressed as the Chicken Dance Chicken, a Lederhosen-clad Zombie, a Día de los Muertos Catarina or whatever suits your fancy. Best costume wins lots of good karma and a bow! The audience will judge.

The holiday favorite returns with this contemporary adaptation. “La Pastorela” follows a group of pastores (shepherds) traveling to Bethlehem. Along the way, the pastores encounter devils who try to stop them, while angels intercede on their behalf. This classic battle between good and evil is woven with current events and social issues that are important to the Austin community. With humor and live music, “La Pastorela” is a fun experience for the entire family.

The year 2018 marks the 10th Anniversary of Broadway Bound. Students, ages 7-16, from across Austin and surrounding areas, participate in daily music, acting, dance, and art classes to hone their performing arts skills. The camp works to instill a strong sense of self-worth, pride and leadership. The summer culminates with two amazing musical productions.

“That’s My Face” is a film series for young adults. We will screen influential films and works by black filmmakers and conduct discussions after viewing. Free and open to the public.

An Afro-Brazilian martial art form develops discipline, coordination, strength and rhythm for all participants. For ages 6 to 13.
