ADAPTING TO COVID-19We look forward to continuing our Lucy Moses School community online and in person this coming year! Health and safety will remain our number one priority as we approach the fall. To that end, we plan to begin with online instruction, phasing in limited in-person instruction as possible. Given the ongoing changes in the COVID-19 situation, it may be necessary for instruction to flex between online and in-person formats throughout the term.

Musicianship Theory, Composition and Sight-SingingEssential for singers and instrumentalists, the study of theory and composition accelerates music learning and enhances creativity. One of our premiere Musicianship offerings is New York’s most comprehensive Sight-Singing program, taught by celebrated teacher Liz Fleischer, making learning to read music simple and fun. If you love to sing and want to join a choir, pursue solo work or just get a solid grounding in musicianship, these music-reading classes are a must.

Chamber EnsemblesShare your love of music! Our coached Chamber Music groups for piano, woodwinds and strings offer expert guidance from faculty. The semester culminates in a recital. Our new partnership with Chamber Music Associates gives musicians a flexible chamber experience—play something new each session, rehearse with professionals, and attend as your schedule allows.

Voice Learn vocal technique in a lively, supportive setting or build your skills in private lessons. Sing your favorite showtunes in the fun group setting of a Broadway class, or learn the ins and outs of the jazz idiom. Unleash your inner diva performing scenes and songs in Opera or Art Song Workshops, or take the stage with Nashir!, our large choral ensemble performing a wide range of Jewish music. Many of our voice classes culminate in an end-of-semester performance.

Jazz Directed by celebrated jazz guitarist Roni Ben-Hur, this unique program is designed for singers and instrumentalists at all levels. Our faculty members are some of the top jazz musicians in the city, here to provide you with an entertaining and satisfying learning experience the likes of which can’t be found anywhere else in New York. Each semester ends with a recital.

Theater Perform pop and Broadway numbers, or create scenes and characters while making friends in a fun Improv group!

Dance & MovementExplore the Vaganova method in a classical ballet class; develop strength, fitness and flexibility in a body work class; or move to the music in a Jazz and Broadway class.

Dalcroze Revolutionize the way you experience music! Focus on rhythm, pitch and harmony through creative movement and physical, vocal and instrumental improvisation. Dalcroze is for vocal and instrumental students, teachers, performers and anyone who wants to feel music more deeply and understand how it works. Teacher Training is available at two levels: Dalcroze Certificate (to teach children) and Dalcroze License (to teach adults and lead workshops).
