Music Libraries in Canadian Universities Alison Hall (Ottawa)
As most of them are children of the twentieth century, Canadian academic libraries
perhaps lack the 'fonds' of their European counterparts. However, this has not prevented institutions from building up collections that now are of considerable import and
significance. The following series of articles describes the contents of some of these
collections, and gives an idea of the kinds of more interesting and valuable materials that
repose in Canadian libraries. As space would not have permitted contributions from all the
Canadian university libraries, the ones represented were chosen both to illustrate some of
the more significant music holdings in Canada and also to attempt to give a kind of historical
overview of different parts of the country.
