The Peace of Christ is Given to All One: The peace of the living Christ be with you all! All: And also with you!

WE LISTEN FOR THE LIVING WORD Scripture Reading Psalm 98 (The Message) Megan Houpt

Sing to GOD a brand-new song. He’s made a world of wonders!

He rolled up his sleeves,

He set things right.

2 GOD made history with salvation,

He showed the world what he could do.

3 He remembered to love us, a bonus

To his dear family, Israel—indefatigable love.

The whole earth comes to attention.

Look—God’s work of salvation!

4 Shout your praises to GOD, everybody!

Let loose and sing! Strike up the band!

5 Round up an orchestra to play for GOD,

Add on a hundred-voice choir.

6 Feature trumpets and big trombones,

Fill the air with praises to King GOD.

7 Let the sea and its fish give a round of applause,

With everything living on earth joining in.

8 Let ocean breakers call out, “Encore!”

Page 4: MUSIC SUNDAY - Davis United Methodist Church · 2020-06-14 · Praying in Community Andrew Hudson One: The Lord be with you. Let us pray together. Beloved Creator, We find ourselves

And mountains harmonize the finale—

9 A tribute to GOD when he comes,

When he comes to set the earth right.

He’ll straighten out the whole world,

He’ll put the world right, and everyone in it.

One: May we welcome God’s blessing in this scripture reading. All: Thanks be to God! Amen!

**Prayer Hymn “How Can I Keep From Singing” FWS # 2212

1. My life flows on in endless song, above earth's lamentation.

I hear the clear, though faroff hymn that hails a new creation.

Refrain: No storm can shake my inmost calm

while to that Rock I'm clinging. Since love is Lord of heaven and earth,

how can I keep from singing?

2. Through all the tumult and the strife, I hear that music ringing.

It finds an echo in my soul. How can I keep from singing?

(Refrain)

Special Music “The Water Is Wide” Stan Johnson

WE OPEN OUR HEARTS AND MINDS TO GOD Praying in Community Andrew Hudson

One: The Lord be with you. Let us pray together.

Beloved Creator,

We find ourselves in a fortress time, our hands wanting to feel solid rock walls, our ears wanting to shut out the sounds of threats and anger and battle. We come to You to find the safety of Your love. Your arms around us are stronger than any rock wall. You teach us to keep Your laws, strive for justice and care for each other, and in doing these things we hear the music of peace. You shield us from every storm no matter how savage the winds and how deafening the thunder, and the song You sing to us quiets our anxious hearts. To you is due all praise and all glory, and we sing Your praise in gratitude. Amen.

Community/Silent Prayer

The Lord’s Prayer (w/ American Sign Language)

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kin-dom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

WE OFFER OUR SELVES & OUR GIFTS TO GOD

Scripture & An Invitation to Give Zora Fowler

We are challenged every day with stories of people being used, oppressed, and treated with contempt. We hear the worst in us being called out in service of political power. But we have a power in our hands that is strong enough to defeat any abuse by human or nature – the power of giving. Giving overcomes the ravages of tornadoes and wildfires and racism and division. Giving feeds the hungry, comforts those who suffer and lifts up those who have been unheard and unseen. Let us give, joyfully.

**Doxology “Prayer” Evan, Haylee, and Seth Wise **Prayer of Dedication Offered by the Tillema Family Gracious God, There are many tears to be dried. There are so many hearts to be healed. So many voices to be lifted up, voices that we can make louder, voices that we can make echo, melodies that we can lend a harmony to. Please lead us, be the power that lifts our song, and guide us in using the gifts of the Church to heal the hurts of the world. Amen.

WE GO TO SERVE GOD & OUR NEIGHBORS IN ALL WE DO

**Hymn of Benediction “All The Music Sung and Played Here” (Come Thou Fount) UMH # 672

All the music sung and played here is a gift, O God, from you. For as long as we have prayed here, we've been blessed by music, too.

By your Spirit, each musician finds new depths of faith to share. Music is a gift you've given and becomes our thankful prayer.

Page 6: MUSIC SUNDAY - Davis United Methodist Church · 2020-06-14 · Praying in Community Andrew Hudson One: The Lord be with you. Let us pray together. Beloved Creator, We find ourselves

All creation sings your glory; in the Psalms are pain and praise.

Mary sang your saving story in her long, expectant days. Through the years, with great emotion, some have reached to you in song.

May we sing with such devotion; music helps your church grow strong!

Bless the talents we are bringing, for we offer you our best. If our gifts are not in singing, may our joyful noise be blest.

If our world is ever silent, may we sign to you above. Touched by grace, may each one present offer back your song of love.

**Benediction

“Rekindle the Gift”

You have a treasure in you, a seed of glory planted from stars, a song written for only you to sing. You have gifts to give. The treasure is buried, and it may take some digging to recover. The song is forgotten, but still hidden in your bones. Nothing that happens to you can remove it, no fear or shame destroy it, no failure ruin it. It is who you are. Rekindle the gift. Listen for the quiet voice, the Spirit of Life singing in you. Listen... and sing. Tune your life to its melody. Let it sing in you, let it sing you into life. Rekindle the gift that is God within you. Give God this joy— for it is God who is singing. -- by Steve Garnaas-Holmes

Special Offering June 21st RECONCILING MINISTRIES AND WORLD COMMUNION SUNDAY

Our special offering this month is split between two important ministries that reflect the values of our church: Reconciling Ministries Network and World Communion Sunday.

Davis UMC is part of the Reconciling Ministries Network, which includes United Methodist individuals, congregations, campus ministries, and other groups working for the full participation of all people in the Methodist Church regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. At this point in our church's history, it is especially important to support RMN, which is doing its utmost to remove the discriminatory policies from UMC’s Book of Discipline. Our giving is a great way to show what our own reconciling congregation believes about full inclusion!

Donations to the World Communion Sunday effort funds scholarships for national and international graduate students who face financial obstacles to completing their education. This program is an

Grace Garden is in need of volunteers! The students are gone for the summer. We need help with harvesting. The fruit trees are loaded with fruit which will be ripening in the next few weeks/month. It won’t be long before the squash and tomatoes will be ready. There is compost needs to be turned and bark chips need to be spread. Never a dull moment! Our summer hours are 8-10am on Mon, Thurs and Sat. We’re trying to beat the heat! You may just come out as you can or check in with Cid: [email protected] Also Happening Today At 1pm

This Sunday at 1pm in Central Park, Dillan Horton and a group of predominantly Black, indigenous and POC Davis folks along with some white folks including Emily Henderson, are organizing a March for Justice. This march will also include a listening session during which individuals and orgs will share proposals for systemic policy changes with elected leaders.
