MUSIC - THE LONG JOURNEY

WHAT WE WERE UP AGAINST Well due to the fact that my group decided

on creating a documentary, we were immediately sidelined to using copyright music, for example real- life artists work. With limited choices of music, we were made to use garage band, garage band a software provided by Apple Mac, however suddenly we were hit by the problem that many of the instruments in garage band needed purchasing and those which were free were of low standard, and unfortunately we couldn’t pay for the other sounds. Time was running out, until we realised that their were websites that offered Free music.

ROYALTY FREE WEBSITES We managed to find royalty free music

websites that enabled us to listen, share and use without breaking copyright rules.

The great thing about the royalty free music sites were that, straight on the spot you could download and use the music.

However the next step was to find the website which seemed to offer the most, i.e. Music genres, one that was user friendly and most important of all, which one offered the best music.

WEBSITES Jamendo was the first site that I visited,

and immediately was the one that seemed to offer the more range of music genres.

You can create playlist were you will be able to place all of your preferred sounds.

It’s extremely easy to download and easy to share with other people.

Once the music has downloaded it will automatically go to my iTunes and from there i will be able to export the music, and then import it straight away to Final Cut Express.

THE FREE SOUND This was the royalty free music site that

I most disliked. It’s dull theme and poor access to music was clearly noticeable.

You had to register before you could listen to the music.

There isn’t that much in the range of genres, also the music was of low quality.

However of the genres the site offers, there seemed to be much more of those specific genres, it’s a shame the genre were the ones i wasn’t looking for.

DEREK R. AUDETTE This was the third website that I visited for

royalty free music. This website had to be the best for user

friendly, suddenly I knew were to look and how to download, it was made easy as the lay out, colours and font was appealing and clear.

The only pitfall for this website was the lack of music, there were many genres, the most out of all three websites in fact. It just lacked depth in music (quantity).

As you see the creativity and design of the website immediately drew me in.

OVERALL As a whole Jamendo seemed to be the best,

it was user friendly, it was colourful and it packed a lot of different music.

Derek R Audette was the best out of all three websites for user friendly, unfortunately it just lacked quantity of music.

Free Sound was a poor website overall extremely dull and especially not the best user friendly site.

All three sites have their positives, however the site that I am most likely to browse from is Jamendo.
