Shane Drake- Biography• Shane C. Drake is an American music

director from Redding, California. He has directed music videos for a variety of bands including Paramore, Flo Rida, Fall Out Boy and Panic! At The Disco amongst others. Drake has directed over 50 music videos and has co-produced three films in his career.

• In his early career, Drake was in involved in cinematography and editorial work and worked with smaller artists including Thursday and Deftones.

• Drake now owns a production company in Los Angeles California called “Red Van Pictures”

• Throughout his career, Shane Drake has been awarded and nominated for a range of directorial awards.

• In 2006 Drake won the award for “Video Of The Year” By MTV at the MTV video music awards for Panic! At The Disco’s “I Write Sins Not Tragedies”

• In 2007 Drake was nominated for MTV “Monster single of the year” for his video for Timbaland’s “The Way I Are.” He also won the MTVU award for Say Anything's “Wow I can Get Sexual”

• Drake has also been nominated and shortlisted for his works on “Nine in the Afternoon” by Panic! At The Disco. Paramore’s “CrushCrushCrush” and “Decode” and Fall Out Boy and John Mayer’s cover of Michael Jackson hit “Beat It”

Decode- Paramore

• This video was a widely successful video due to its coalition with the heavily advertised and followed “Twilight Saga.” This song was announced as the soundtrack for the vampire film and Shane Drake’s directions of this video reflect both the band and the film it is advertising explicitly.

Decode- Paramore• This video uses footage of both

the movie “Twilight” and original footage filmed by Shane Drake. The video is filmed as if the band members are a part of the action within the film. Drake uses a blue filter over the background to create the cold colourings present in the film. The band members are put in a situations similar to the characters in the clips show, running through the forest. The band are dressed similar to those in the clips which links the song to the storyline of the movie rather than there being an independent storyline for the song.

Decode-Paramore• Drake uses various daring shots in this

video to create the idea of the band being watched or preyed on by the vampire characters from the Warner Bros. movie. These effects include a rotation of the camera creating a circling motion implying a predator circling prey and high shots as if being watched from above.

• Drake once said “I like to tell stories with my videos” which he cleverly transferred into this video incorporating the movie storyline.

• Drake uses a shot of the main singer using a dolly, which pulls both the camera and her along through the wooded area which creates an ambient view towards the touching lyrics of the song.

• Shane Drake called this video “probably the most exciting thing [he’s] shot in [his] entire life” This is probably due to his freedom of expression in this video allowing him to use unconventional costumes, shots and storylines to mirror the band’s quirky and alternative values and lyrics.

• This video bases mainly around the idea of dream sequences (animal heads) and postmodernism. There is a strong lack of storyline and Drake has allowed his creativity to flourish within the video with random and obscure ideas.

• Drake uses an intertextual reference towards The Beatles famous “Sergeant Pepper…” look. To portray the bands quirkiness

• The lyrical link is in the shots of the alarm clocks which are all marked backwards to show what should be 3pm as 9pm (9 in the afternoon)

• There are varied types of shots in this video, there is a de-saturated effect on the parade scene with a heightened contrast creating a sort of CGI cartoon effect. The dream sequence and shots in the bedroom are high saturation and brightness to show the jollity and fun within the video and also how the band are willing to make fun of themselves.

the artist in his music videos and shows a live performance in almost all of them. He shows this element to promote the band as well as his video showing his strong connection with the band when filming their videos.

• Drake generally films for Alternative/Pop-Rock artists such as Paramore, Fall Out Boy and Panic! At the Disco as they allow him to be more alternative with his directing style to fit the music
