music video feedback

Music Video Feedback I asked a number of questions about the age and gender of the individual taking the questionnaire, then asked them to give their personal opinions about my media products These are some of the comments that I received from the questionnaire. “I really like how you joined two piece of film together, for example when she jumps up in the air and then into the water. The way that you edited it made it look magical which matched the song. I like how you had close up shots of her face and then long shots of her standing. I guess the narrative is about her being sad about her and her boyfriend arguing. Although at some points it is a bit confusing” “The cinematography was amazing! I like how you used indoor and outdoor locations. The shots where you have two pieces of film running over each other were really cool. I think it was good how you had shots of her hand and then showed the same shot but underwater was good. I’m not to keen on the song choice because its a bit repetitive but I think you did well to keep the attention despite this. For most of the music video we only see the girl but it is still interesting.” “The water scenes were good. I think how her dress moved in the water was a really nice effect. The transitions at 1:31-1:36 were good. I like the whole meaning of the music video, the things you see match with the song lyrics. The acting was poor because you could tell that they weren’t a couple in feel life. The arguing wasn’t very convincing. But apart from that it was a really good overall music video.” When analysing the feedback from the questionnaire, I was really pleased with the comments. In general, the viewers have expressed positive opinions about the camerawork and editing. The particular parts of the music video which were commented on were the shots where the protagonist jumps into the air in the outdoor location and then the shot changes to her jumping into the water. Another part of the media product that an individual made a positive comment about was the editing. They mentioned the two overlaying pieces of footage. I was really happy to receive comments about the locations used in the music video. I thought that this would make it interesting to watch. Also, I filmed numerous of the same shots in both locations then edited them both into my music video. I thought this was an effective element in my media product. An individual commented on how the majority of the music video showed the protagonist, and very little showed another character. I am pleased that someone commented on this as I wasn’t the protagonist to seem isolated and for the audience to focus on her and her emotional struggle. Some criticism that I received about the music video were about the narrative, song choice and acting.Narrative – The comments that were relating to the narrative of my music video were all roughly the same. When analysing the feedback from the questionnaire, I was really pleased with the comments. They mentioned the two overlaying pieces of footage. mentioned that the narrative was confusing and they didn’t understand some parts of the media product. This is a comment that I have received from my peers as well as teachers. I am aware that the music video does not follow a strong narrative arch which makes it hard to follow what is happen.Song Choice – An individual stated that they did not like the song choice as they felt that the song was repetitive. I agree that the lyrics are repetitive but I believe that this was part of the style and genre of the song and artist. I believe that although the music may become repetitive, the cinematography keeps the attention of the audience. This point is supported by a comment from my questionnaire.Acting – I was disappointed that the acting was not upto the standard that I wished. Both the actress and actor had past experiences in acting but they both said that they had not acted like this before. They were both really good friends so they found it hard to act to be in a relationship and argue. I felt that this may have negatively effected the overall media product but I hope that my micro elements of the music video make up for this.
