Media Pitch – How to be a heartbreaker
Choice of trackWhy did we choose this track? Our track is "How to be a heartbreaker" by Glee.
Narrative- The first thing we agreed on was having a narrative in our video. This is because it ensures that the audience will engage our video. It makes it more interesting as the audience follows it, it then makes it more memorable as when they hear the song they will associate the story in the video with it.
Upbeat- Although the lyrics aren't entirely moral- it makes people happy when they listen to it and so it allows us to make a perhaps humourous music video which we have chosen to do.
How will our artist be branded? Our artist will be called ‘Xavier King’ This will benefit us in terms of synergy- for example: use of the reoccurrence of the heart with the ‘X’ from his name in it. Could be used in our music video as a prop and on our digipak.
How will it differ from the original video? So the track we have chosen is a remake of an already existing track. The first one is by Marina and the Diamonds: And the remake (which we are using) is by 'Brody' from glee: As the song appears in Glee it is used for the narrative of the TV show- exp.Ours will be very different to this as it will be a continuous shot of our main guy who goes on different dates with many girls. It will all be in one studio with the setting changing rather than all over new york and a hotel like the originial video is.

Genre, code & Conventions • Demonstrate an understanding of genre & market fit? Our
chosen song would fit into the genre of pop music, we know this due to researching our chosen song and discovering it made it into the charts. Therefore qualifying as a popular song.
• Which real example of video have influenced you? Reference at least two and say what, exactly, has influenced you? One music Video that has influenced our music video would be the original video of ‘How to be a heartbreaker’ By Marina & The Diamonds. It has influenced us by choosing to have a few woman featuring in the video but only one main male. Another music video that has influenced us is Walk off the Earths ‘Little Boxes’, there use of cardboard is reflected in all our props being made out of cardboard. Alongside these music videos the simplicity of Mr. Men programmes has directed us towards a simple yet exciting atmosphere for the video.

Music Video Content• Our music video goes along with Goodwin’s Interpretation
convention and we have chosen Illustration• This means our video anchors the viewer to the literal
meaning of the song• The content of our video will include the main artist in each
scene either in a scenario with a different girl or in a performance shot
• Also our props will predominantly be made of cardboard (there will be background helpers holding the props throughout the video
• A video we were inspired by is “Little boxes” by walk off the earth because all of the props in their video are made out of cardboard and their instruments are also made of wooden boxes.

Audience Detail• Our wider target audience would be
both male and female.
• Aged 14-24
We will attract our audience by having:• A young male artist (similar to Justin
Bieber)• A song that they may recognise from
the original singer Marina and the Diamonds
• An interesting and lively video in which the artist interacts with the audience by singing into the camera

Mise en Scene - Location & Setting
We have chosen to use the studio for the whole of our video. This way the layout can stay the same and we’ll be able to work with the green
screen which we need throughout.
• Bedroom• Picnic• Cinema• Restaurant• Simple background for
performance shots

Mise en scene – Props, costumes and makeup
• Props- Very ‘cartoony’ cardboard handmade props.
• I have made a sun and moon which look like this:
• Costume- Guy: Simple blue shirt• Girl 1: Casual clothes- skirt and tshirt• Girl 2: Floral summer dress• Girl 3: Jeans and a jacket• Girl 4: Elegant evening dress• Make up- Very natural looking make up so
that our cast doesn’t get washed out by our studio lights. Girl 4 will have heavier eye makeup and a bolder lip to go with the restaurant setting.

Digipak & synergy• What possible links will your video have with you digipak?
We plan to link our video with the digipak through the use of imagery, by using images of broken hearts
• To the right is a possible example of an image to be used in the digipak
Gabriella
Institutional detail• Will you be signed to a major label-why? We
plan to be signed to Universal, because we see him a relatively mainstream pop artist, and also because is sound and image is similar to other artist signed to Universal.
• Which other artist are signed to this label? Similar sounding artist singed to this label consist of Shawn Mendes, Taylor Swift and a early Justin Bieber.

Production Schedule Belinda
Risk Assessment• Identify any risk that could arise when
filming, with some possible solutions to prevent the risks.
• Having our video set at a quick pace due to the song it could result in collisions or accident, a solution to this would be making sure everybody knows what they are doing and props are not to be left on the floor.
