I have fond memories of my years in the bands, masquers and oth- er events. Now I have kids of my own here in OF schools. I see how far things have come in the years since I was a student here. I have watched the size of the bands and choirs continue to grow. For 11 consecutive years, Olmsted Falls has been declared as one of the Best Communities for Music Education. To continue to be the best and support the growth in the music programs, additional band uniforms, concert attires, and instruments (to name a few) are needed. Parents, students, teachers and community volunteer involvement are needed. As OFMA president, I plan to aggressively pursue sponsors, donors, grants, additional fundraisers and work with and talk to anyone who wants to be involved. I encourage you to contact me with you input and ideas that will help Olmsted Falls music programs to continue to be successful. I welcome you to join OFMA on facebook and follow on twitter. This fall, OFMA will have its own website that will showcase all of the OFCSD music programs and provide information on fundraising and how you can be involved. Thanks for supporting music in Olmsted Falls City School District.. A donor hits the right note!

Mr. Jerry Cergol enjoyed coming to the choir concerts and watch his grandson, Nicholas Wilke-Carr participate. He appreciated the work of Mrs. Crandall and OFMA. That appreciation led Mr. Cergol to put OFMA on the top of his list of candidates to donate his Tadashi piano (Mr. Cergol moved and wasn’t taking his piano to his new home). The Tadashi piano new home is at Olmsted Falls High School. Mr. Cergol has been a professional musician most of his life. On Sundays, Mr. Cergol plays the keyboard at Unity Spiritual Center in Westlake. The Tadashi pianos were manufactured in Japan. Ironically, Japan is where Nicholas graduated from high school this school year. Nicholas completed his junior year in 2016 at OFHS. His mom (Mr. Cergol’s daughter) works for the Department of Defense and accepted a position at Yokota US Air Force base near Tokyo.

OFMA and the music department of OFHS thank Mr. Cergol for this dona-tion. If you have an instrument in good working condition and would like to donate it to OFMA, contact OFMA’s

president Jamie Reigle at jamierei-

or 440-263-7290.

In The Spotlight (follow-up)

Dominic DiFilippo was featured in April’s “In the Spotlight”. Dominic entered his music composition enti-tled “Nature’s Story” into the Ohio PTA Reflections competition and won an Honorable Mention Award. As shown in picture (to the left), Dominic received his awards and is all smiles. Dominic is currently composing a musical piece for saxophone. Speaking of saxophone, in May, Dominic performed in his first saxophone recital. He is taking saxophone as well as piano lessons at the Baldwin-Wallace Community School. This fall, Dominic will be entering the 5th grade at OFIS.

Lindsey Smits was featured in June 2016 “In The Spotlight”. Lindsey is considered a triple-threat, an actor, musician and dancer. Lindsey loves acting in musicals, and singing in front of an audience. Since her feature last June, Lindsey has been quite busy. She had the honor of playing Belinda Crachit in "A Christmas Carol" at Great Lakes Theater at Playhouse Square for 30+ perfor-mances last fall. This spring, Lindsey was thrilled to play "Annie" in the 40th Anniversary produc-tion of the show at Brecksville Little Theater. Off stage, Lindsey won First Place in her age division, and swas the overall Grand Prize Winner in the Olmsted Falls K-12 District Talent Show. She also had the privilege of performing the National Anthem at Olmsted Falls 4th of July Celebration in Village Green, at the Faculty Dodgeball Tournament, and for the OFHS women's softball team. She will be singing the National Anthem at a Lake Erie Monster's game

this July. Lindsey achieved a childhood dream, earning her ballet pointe shoes in Janu-ary, and was able to dance en pointe in an excerpt of Swan Lake for her year-end dance recital. Lindsey continues to study ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, and lyri-cal/contemporary dance at Rock City Dance. She competed on Rock City's Dia-mond Tech Competition Dance Team and they are going to Nationals this sum-mer. Lindsey studies vocal performance with Amy Hanratty, and piano with Northcoast Music. Lindsey also plays percus-sion in the Olmsted Falls Intermediate School band. This fall Lindsey will enter the 6th grade at OFMS. She is hoping to audition for Golden Harmonies and to join her older sister, Evelyn, in the Bulldog Theatre Company.

Dominic is all smiles with his awards from Ohio PTA Reflection competition.

Olmsted Falls students rocked Severance Hall with the legendary Melissa Etheridge

OF students Lexy Jensen, Greg Smith, Lainey Rambert, Alexis Nelan and Megan Green had the time of their lives performing on stage with Melissa Etheridge at Severance Hall on June 7th. Lexy, Greg, Lainey and Alexis were members of the chorus and Megan played piccolo in the Contemporary Youth Orchestra’s (CYO) Rock the Orchestra con-cert with Melissa Etheridge. Lexy, Greg, Lainey and Alexis an-swered the audition call to be a part of chorus. Megan is a first year member of CYO. CYO’s director, Liza Grossman, had been pursuing Melissa Ether-idge for 10 years trying to convince Melissa to do a concert with

CYO. That persistent pursuit paid off. The concert was videotaped for a documentary. Stay tune for the date and station for the broadcast of this documentary.
