What’s ironic about the PCH highway is that those who

walk the path discover that the attributes of religious life that

seem so important to please God become like trash com-

pared to knowing Christ. This journey of faith is more about

knowing Christ than about letting others see just how reli-

gious we are. If you’ve never been to a trash heap, you’ll

not want to miss this visit. You’ll discover the power of

losing everything for the sake of gaining the most important

thing in this life and eternity. Yeah, it’s that important.

Exploring Philippi

Archeological excavations in Philippi began in the summer of 1914, but

were interrupted by World War I. They were renewed in 1920 and contin-

ued until 1937. The Greek theatre, the large and well-preserved forum,

two Basilicas, the baths and the walls were excavated. After the Second

World War archeologists excavated the bishops

quarter and the octagonal church, home large pri-

vate residences, a new basilica near the museum

and two more basilicas in the necropolis to the

east of the city, including one of the earliest

churches known in Greece. The number of

churches in the city in the Byzantine period indi-

cate Philippi's importance to Christians at this

time.
