MyDesign Suite Overview & FAQs

get acquainted with the new MyDesign SuiteWhen you log on to UL Express and visit the new MyDesign Suite when it launches on August 4 at 12 noon (mt), you’ll notice a brand new, more functional layout and many new, easy-to-use features. We created the new MyDesign Suite to be more of a personal design application that offers limitless options and more control over your finished expression. You’ll also notice that the original MyDesign features you’ve come to know still exist in MyDesign Suite but are now more intuitive and user-friendly. We guarantee if you enjoyed using the MyDesign Tool, you’ll fall in love with MyDesign Suite!

Exciting New Features!

In addition to customizing your own text design, you can now:

• Design your expression on a virtual UL accessory or blank surface

• Add existing UL Exclusive™ Expressions and embellishments to custom text

• Customize the font, size, color, alignment, and path of each expression element

• Reposition your text elements

Select from a list of UL accessories or create a virtual replica of an existing wall or door in MyDesign Suite. Then match your expression to this surface as you

design it.

1. Select a surface from the surface dropdown menu.

• If you select a UL accessory, the accessory will appear on your screen and the correct dimensions will be provided for you.

MyDesign Suite™, the innovative evolution of MyDesign Tool, has incredible new features designed to bring your customers’ creativity to life and take their design experience to a whole new level. This enhanced online application not only features all the custom text functions you’re already familiar with, but it now enables customers to add their own personalized text to any current UL Exclusive Expression or embellishment—then tweak the font, color, and size for a design that is all their own! It’s sure to be a hit at your Open Houses and a great boost to your sales, too!

To introduce you to the new MyDesign Suite, we’ve provided step-by-step instructions on each of the new features, as well as answers to what we anticipate will be your most frequently asked questions. With these basics—and a few minutes of exploration in the MyDesign Suite application—you’ll be able to help your customers create their own personalized expression with our new MyDesign Suite!

2 add existing UL Exclusive Expressions and embellishments to custom text

Adding your MyDesign custom text in MyDesign Suite is as simple as ever—all it takes is three easy steps! Then, enjoy hundreds of additional design options by combining your text with any UL Exclusive (catalog) Expression or embellishment.

To add a custom expression:

1. Click the “Add Custom Text” button.

2. Type your custom word or phrase in the provided box.

3. Click “Add.”

To add a UL Expression or embellishment:

1. Click the “Add UL Expression” button.

2. Select the category of the expression you’d like to add. If you wish to add an embellishment, select the “Embellishment” category or use the search function to find what you are looking for.

3. Select a subcategory within that category.

4. Select an expression that fits your current design.

5. Select a size from the size dropdown menu. Available sizes vary upon expression.

6. Select a color from the color dropdown menu. If it is a Two-Part Expression, you will need to select a color for each part

7. Click “Add.”

Each new element you add has its own corresponding menu where you can adjust color, font, size, etc. What a great way to add your personal touch to every MyDesign expression you create!

1. Click on the element you wish to customize.

2. Using that element’s corresponding menu, located in the left sidebar, adjust font, size, color, alignment, and text path.

4 reposition your text elementsGive your expression a balanced, harmonious look and powerful visual appeal using the MyDesign reposition tools. Use the basics below to move elements quickly. Use the Advanced Tools to align, distribute, or mirror your elements as a group.

Basics

1. To reposition a single design element, click and hold your cursor over the element text box as you drag it to a new location. Or, use the arrows located within each element’s menu.

2. To reposition multiple elements, first highlight the elements by pressing and holding the Control (Ctrl) key as you click each element.

3. Release the Control key.

4. Move your cursor over one of the highlighted elements.

5. Click and hold the left mouse button as you drag the elements to a new position.


Advanced Tools

1. Open the Advanced Tools menu.

2. Highlight your elements by pressing and holding the Control (Ctrl) key as you click each element.

3. To align your elements along the same edge, choose from the 6 Align options.

4. To create equal white space between elements, select from the 2 Distribute options.

5. To flip your expression for use on windows, acrylic, etc., click the Mirror button.

6. To deselect your elements, click outside your element text boxes in the MyDesign Suite screen.

Saving and ordering your MyDesign Suite expression is very similar to the steps you took in MyDesign Tool. Please review the “MyDesign Suite Management” document in the Document Library for more information.

MyDesign suite Basics

What constitutes a blank surface?

A blank surface is any surface other than a UL accessory. The most typical example of a blank surface is a wall, though you can also design for a door, window, cabinet, or any other space. Within the MyDesign Suite application, you can create a virtual replica of your existing surface by selecting

“Blank Surface” from the surface dropdown menu, then inputting surface dimensions and selecting a matching color.

What does it mean to mirror my expression?

When you mirror an expression, you flip your current design backward for use on glass, acrylic, or another transparent surface. For instance, if you placed your mirrored design on the inside of a car window, the design would appear as your original design when viewed from the outside.

What is the difference between total expression size and letter height?

Total expression size refers to the size of your overall expression. Letter height is the size of a letter “A” in the font you selected, and this height affects the size of each letter in that specific expression element.

Why is there a question mark near some features?

The question mark denotes a help function for specific features like the Advanced Tools. When you place your mouse arrow on the question mark, a window will open with additional information on that feature.

How do I title my expression?

When you save your MyDesign expression, you can give it a name you will remember. Your expression will then be saved in the My Saved Expressions section of MyDesign Suite, where you can access it at a later time. For more information on how to save and title your expression, refer to the comprehensive online MyDesign tutorial.


uL excLusive expressions in MyDesign

Can I separate a Two-Part UL Exclusive Expression or adjust the size, color, and font of the UL Exclusive Expression I select?

UL Exclusive Expressions (catalog expressions) are the proprietary designs of Uppercase Living and have been preset to certain manufacturing sizes. When you select a UL Exclusive Expression in MyDesign, you must keep the font provided within that expression. You can then choose the size and color to be applied to the whole expression, as outlined in the current Idea Catalog. Two-Part UL Exclusive Expressions cannot be separated or adjusted as separate elements, but the entire expression can be adjusted.

MuLtipLe parts in your MyDesign expression

Can I add more than one custom expression to my design?

You can add as many different custom and UL Exclusive Expressions as you would like. Just be aware that every

new text box you add will be counted as an individual part.

I have multiple parts in my expression. How will I receive them?

Individual elements within your MyDesign expression will arrive separately and must be applied to your surface

separately as well.

How do I match up multiple expression elements on my surface?

Custom MyDesign expressions do not come with registration marks; however, registration marks will appear on any Two-Part UL Exclusive Expressions you order. We recommend printing out your completed design from MyDesign Suite and using this sheet as your reference as you apply each part. You can then trim any excess backing paper around each expression element (for easier handling) and match each part

visually according to your printed design.

Once I’ve ordered my saved design, can I access it again and make changes to it?

Once you’ve saved your MyDesign Suite expression, you can access it in the My Saved Expressions section of MyDesign Suite. If you haven’t yet ordered your design, you may open the saved expression and make as many changes as you would like. Once you’ve ordered your

expression once, you cannot make changes to the saved file. You may, however, copy it into a new design or reorder it to give as a gift or place on another surface in your home.

Note: If you copy an expression, you must save it with a new name.

If I start a MyDesign expression during a promotion but don’t order it until after the promotion deadline, can I still receive the promotion price?

Regardless of when you started your MyDesign expression, you will only receive the promotion price when you submit the expression to Uppercase Living

before the promotion deadline.

How do I know how much my order will cost?

MyDesign Suite provides pricing details as you design your element. Pricing is separated into subtotal and individual element pricing. For more details on how to track your pricing as you design your custom

expression, refer to the MyDesign Suite Tutorial.

Can I use Living Rewards credits to order a MyDesign Expression?

Yes. Simply order your expression through a Living Rewards Product order. For more information, contact

Demonstrator Services at 866-369-5066.

Can I exchange a MyDesign Expression?

You can only exchange a MyDesign Suite Expression because of a quality defect. If your design is exchanged, you will receive the exact same design

you ordered previously.

How will my expression ship if some letters were positioned off the MyDesign Suite screen when

I ordered it? As you design your expression, be aware that what you see in the MyDesign screen is what will be shipped to you. If the letters of your expression have dropped off your selected accessory, you may want to adjust the text size and/or font to ensure that your expression arrives whole and fits the accessory when you apply it. If the letters have dropped off your blank surface, try adjusting the surface dimensions. The dimensions remain the same when you switch from an accessory to the blank surface option, so they may be too small for your existing wall or door.

When you create a MyDesign Suite expression, the custom text in your expression is priced per letter based on size. The chosen letter size indicates the size of a capital letter “A” in your chosen font. Even though the various letters in your expression may be smaller or larger relative to the capital “A,” sizing and the corresponding price are still based on the capital “A.”

The guide below indicates the relative size of each letter in your chosen font in relation to the capital “A.” To calculate exact dimensions of your custom expression, create your expression using the MyDesign Suite.
