My Educational Manifesto

My Educational ManifestoMichelle Stanley

PlatoThe RepublicBut our argumentindicates that thepower of learninginheres in everyones soul.

William Butler Yeats once saidEducation is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.

As educators, we need to light our students souls on fireBut how can we do this?Appeal to as many students as possible. Teach the way they learn!

Make learning environments exploratory!

Stress that education happens everywhere, not just in school!

We must appeal to a variety of different learners

The environment in which we teach our students needs to be exploratory

Please Reflect upon the following"As I came into closer contact with them, I saw that it was not through books that one could impart training of the spirit. Just as physical training was to be imparted through physical exercise, and intellectual through intellectual exercise, even so the training of the spirit was only possible through the exercise of the spirit" "a great teacher designs lessons that allow students to participate in empowering activities in which they understand that learning is a process and mistakes are a natural part of learning"

Our biggest job is to scaffold learning

Education does not just take place in schools, and does not just stop at a certain age. Education takes place everywhere, and is a life long journey!

Apply to multiple intelligences

Create exploratory environments

Remember education is lifelong!
