Registration makes it easier for lost dogs to be identified and reunited with their owners. If the owner is not located or identified in Council’s animal registration database, it is possible that a lost dog may be rehomed or as a last resort, euthanised. Dog registration also aims to reduce the number of stray dogs in urban areas.

If your dog is three months or older, it must be registered with Maranoa Regional Council. You must register the dog within 14 days after you take ownership of the dog.

When you register your dog(s), you will be provided with a registration tag for each animal. These tags must been worn by your pet while away from your property. It is recommended that your pet wears this tag at all times so that in the event of an escape from your property, we can reunite you and your pet quickly.

Microchipping Requirements for Dogs & Cats It is a requirement under the Animal Management (Cats & Dogs) Act 2008 that all dogs and cats over 12 weeks of age are to be microchipped. It is important to note that it is not a mandatory requirement in the Maranoa Regional Council area for cats to be registered, however it is strongly recommended.

DOG REGISTRATIONOwning a dog can provide great companionship, however deciding to become a dog owner also means you take on responsibilities not only towards your animal, but to your community members as well.

COMMUNITY SAFETY My Pet. My Responsibil ity. My Maranoa.

Dog registration applies to all dogs being kept within the Maranoa Region - both in and out of town designated areas. Reduced rates apply for dogs located in non-designated town (rural) areas. Exemptions for working dogs and assistance dogs are available.

Dog registration is an annual fee.

Annual registration is cheaper if your dog is desexed and further reduced if microchipped (please ensure you provide evidence, i.e. Vet certificate). There are pensioner concessions also available.

The annual registration period runs from 1 July to 30 June the following year.

Renewal registrations are at full cost throughout the year.

There is a pro rata rate after 1 January for new dog arrivals to the community.

You must be 18 years and over to register a dog.
