ByutilisingCrowdfundingAberdeen,theActiveGirlsCommitteesourcedadditionalfundingfromthegeneralpublicwhichhasfacilitatedtheexpansionandgrowthofitswork.
Whatdifferencehasitmade?E.g.improvedservices,betteroutcomes,savings.
On2May2017,theActiveGirlsCommitteehadraised£875with16supportersin42daysviathecrowdfundingplatform.Theprojecthasbeenabletousethemoneytohelpfundtwolargeevents:Onewasalauncheventon22May2017atwhichtheCommitteelaidoutitsaimsandobjectivesforaddressingthebarriersfacinggirls’participationinsportandphysicalactivity.Thesecondeventwasa‘Girl’sBigDayOut’,afreeevent,heldatAberdeenSportsVillageon19June2017,whichduringthedaywelcomedover300girlsfromsecondaryschoolyears2–4,fromtendifferentAberdeenCityschools.
TheGirlsBigDayOutwasco-designedbytheActiveGirlsCommittee,toaddressissuessurroundingbarrierstoyounggirlstakingpartinsport.Theeventofferedauniquemixofphysicalactivityopportunitiesthatwerenon-traditional(e.g.aHarryPotterinspiredgameofQuidditch,teamtrainingandcircuitsandMartialArts,includingSoYangDo),aimedatengagingwiththegirls,andincludedtalksonmentalandphysicalhealthdeliveredbytheActiveGirlsCommitteethemselves.ThemoneyraisedbytheActiveGirlsCommitteeviathecrowdfundingplatformpaidfortheentireday,includingbusestoandfromschool,facilitycostsandcoachingcosts.
