Introduction:

Guess the Coin

Do: Guess the Coin

Place two coins in one sock and a handful of coins in other socks. Today in our Bible story, rich

people were giving lots of coins to God. A poor woman gave two small coins. Guess which

sock has two small coins.

Talk About: Which sock do you think has coins like the poor woman gave?

Jesus said she gave the most because she gave all she had.

Bible Story: Read the story from The Preschooler’s Bible or The Beginner’s Bible

A Woman’s Special Gift

The Preschooler’s Bible

Pages 356-359

Do you see that poor woman? Jesus sees her. Jesus’ friends see her too. The poor woman is

giving money at God’s house. She is giving two little coins. That’s not much to give, is it? Do

you see those rich men? Jesus sees them. Jesus’ friends see them too. The rich men are giving

money at God’s house. They are giving many, many coins. That’s a lot to give, isn’t it? “The

poor woman is giving more than the rich men.” Jesus says. His friends are surprised. How can

two little coins be more than a lot of big coins? What does Jesus mean? “The poor woman is

giving all she has,” Jesus tells His friends. “The rich men have much left. That is why she is

giving more than they.” Jesus wants us to give our best to Him. You will won’t you?

Discussing the story:

Ask: What were people putting in the box? What was the money for? How much did the poor

woman put in the box? Why did Jesus say the woman gave the most? How can we give to

Jesus?

Say: The poor woman gave only two small coins. She loved God so much that she gave Him

all she had. We can give money to God at church. When we give money or share with others, it

shows that we love God. At our church we use our money to teach other children about Jesus.

Help make our church big enough for more people. (Share other ways we use our money for

God.)

Pray: Thank God for giving us so much. Ask Him to give us generous hearts so others can hear

about Jesus.

Craft Activity:

Giving Hands Necklace

Let the children color their hands. Help them put some yarn or string through the hole and tie it

on as a necklace.

Bible Activity:

Where’s My Coin?

Sit the children in a circle. Choose one child to sit in the center of the circle with eyes closed.

Have the children pass the coin around the circle until the teacher says STOP! Whoever is

holding the coin when the teacher says STOP, should hide the coin in their hands, under their

knee or behind their back. All the children should make a fist with their hands while the child in

the center guesses who has the coin. The child will get three guesses about who has the coin.

The child holding the coin will be the next child in the center. Play until all or most of the

children have either hidden the coin; have been in the center or both.

Things to talk about:

• What are your very favorite things?

• Who do those things really belong to?

Words to pray together:

Dear God, Thank you for (name the

things your child named). We thank you

for allowing us to have these things. Help

us to remember that everything we have is

because of You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

PRAYER FOR YOUR CHILD

Father, please give (child’s name) a

generous heart. Teach him/her to

share the blessings that You have

given to him/her with those in need.

Give (child’s name) opportunities to

share with others.

Give it Away!

Read the Bible story about the “Woman Who Gave All” (The Widow’s Mite) from a Children’s Bible.

Discuss what it means to give to God and others.

Help your child sort through his/her toys or things and find something they can give to someone in

need. Make sure it is in good shape. Giving of our best is what Jesus asks us to do. Take the toy or

object to someone in need or donate it to a children’s shelter or women’s shelter. It’s the responsibility

of the parents to teach their child lifestyle stewardship. If God has blessed your family, then you in turn

should bless someone else.
