Let’s create a fairer society
together!
I’m on my way to excellence.
Show you care; play fair.

I
Our Lancasterian Primary School vision says that ‘we will make a fairer society’ and that, in order to do this, ‘we will make the best school’.
We come to school to learn and we believe that all types of learning are important. In school, we spend a lot of time learning subjects in class, like reading, writing and maths. But learning about getting on with each other, communicating well and sorting out problems are also important. We know that these skills continue to be important as we grow up, go to secondary school and university and get a job.
Our school values help to teach us about the personal qualities that we believe are important to be happy and successful in life. These values
are part of every aspect of school life. We use these values to spot and celebrate when we make good choices and to support and encourage when we make mistakes, helping the us to reflect and think about how we might act differently in the future.
In this booklet, we keep a record of our development in relation to the school’s values. We keep it with us all the way from year 1 to year 6. It will be exciting to see all the learning we will do each year! We will work hard and enjoy our journey to excellence together, as we become the best school and make society a fairer place.

Imari Inclusion loves getting everyone involved. With his eight arms he’s always ready to help others.
He loves to explore his environment seeking out new friends. As a really caring value he’s quick to offer a hug or kind word to those who might feel vulnerable or upset. He will share his toys and equipment with others to cheer them up and help them to play games together well. He knows that talking turns is so important and he loves to sing out, ‘Show you care; play fair!’
Imari’s most special possession is his wonderful jar of treasured shapes. They come in all different sizes, forms, colours and patterns. They can all do different things individually but when they come together they create dazzling results. They remind him of everyone at school, all their unique differences and how remarkable they can be when they are together. He loves to play with them all.
Imari knows that we’re all different with our own strengths, weaknesses, interests and personalities. That’s what makes us all special. He celebrates our unique cultures and beliefs with the beautiful, contrasting patterns on each of his arms. He’s so proud of them and how they come together to make him unique.

Leila Lifelong Learning is always hungry for knowledge. She never feels quite full up, no matter how much she discovers. She is always on the lookout for new knowledge and skills. When she spots something interesting through her curious magnifying glass, she flutters over and captures it with her ‘Imagination Net,’ ready to add it to all the other tasty morsels she has found.
Leila isn’t fully developed, just look at her fascinating wings. They change and evolve as she learns and explores the world around her. She adds all her new discoveries and skills to them. They will never stop growing — even when she reaches 100!
She’s particularly proud of her smaller wing and can see it changing and becoming stronger as she practises her skills. It has a special lobe at the bottom which she made at home. She did it all by herself and it makes her feel amazing to discover what she can accomplish when she puts her mind to it.
Leila loves school. She wants to do well so she can be a journalist, or a pilot, a teacher or even a marine biologist. She’s not sure what she wants to be but is starting to build a toolkit of skills she might need when she grows up and chooses a career. These skills, and her wings, will help her transform into whatever she wants to be.

I enjoy learning.
I am curious about the world around me.
I see learning opportunities everywhere and make the most of them.
I know that I have to keep practising skills, even when I am good at them.
I understand why school is important.
I learn new things outside of school, sometimes on my own.
I understand the link between doing well at school and my future career.
I have some ideas about what career I might want to do when I grow up.
I am starting to develop the skills I need for the kind of career I might want to do.
I think I will still be learning new things even when I am 100 years old.

Gerty Growth Mindset thought she was going to be a lemon tree. After all, that’s what everyone around her thought she would be! But as she learns new knowledge, and grows her intelligence, incredible things occur. She’s starting to grow all different kinds of wonderful and unusual fruit.
She’s proud of each and every new fruit, shoot and leaf she grows. They show her effort and attempts. She knows that learning isn’t always easy but is determined to keep trying, no matter how hard it is. She’s most proud of the little star fruit she’s grown. She had to take a risk to grow that — trying something new and out of her comfort zone. Just look at how that star glistens!
She’s not afraid to make mistakes, as you can see from all her different loops and branches, but she learnt from them and that makes her knowledge even stronger. Warm, friendly Gerty is a beacon for others. She carries a sunshine with her at all times which spreads ‘The Power of Yet’ and reminds us that it’s better to say ‘We can’t do this yet!’ than to give up.
She carries a shiny watering can which she fills with the help, support and feedback which people give to her. When she comes across a challenge she sprinkles this over her leaves. It feels great to refresh her thinking. If her friends are struggling she gives them a sprinkle too which helps them to persevere and grow their intelligence.

I remember that intelligence is something that I can grow.
I don’t say, ‘I can’t do this’; I say, ‘I can’t do this yet’.
I recognise that effort is more important than results.
I learn new things as often as I can.
I am not scared of mistakes or failure because I can learn from them.
I take risks in order to improve my learning.
I ask for help when I need it.
I value all feedback.
I support others to persevere.
I apply a growth mindset to all aspects of my learning, including friendships and behaviour.

Ignacio Integrity loves how unusual he looks and would never pretend to be someone he is not. He’s proud of who he is but even though his shell is amazing he’s definitely not a show off.
With his keen sense of smell he can sniff out the truth and will always speak up for what he believes is right, even if it feels tough. He weighs up both sides of any argument with his little scales so that he makes sure he treats everyone fairly. His hard shell helps him to be brave and choose courage over comfort in difficult situations.
Ignacio understands that having integrity means that what you think and feel match what you say and do; he would never say or do something that he doesn’t believe in or doesn’t feel is right. Underneath his shell he’s sensitive and so he pays attention to his thoughts and feelings. He knows they can be easily knocked or hurt, no matter how tough he appears. He understands that he can affect others’ thoughts and feelings too so takes responsibility for his actions and is careful with what he says. His strong arms and legs hold him steady and solid and won’t let others’ negative ideas and actions sway him.
Ignacio is a dependable value to have in our community. When he makes a promise you know he will keep it! He treasures every one — locking it away in his chest for safe keeping.
Ignacio is honest through and through, from the top of his ear to the tip of his tail. He sometimes makes mistakes in his behaviour (we all do occasionally!) but will always say sorry and own up. He waves his tail to remind others of such a powerful word and will always forgive them when they say sorry too.

Plucky Hetty High Aspirations is aiming for the stars and the glittering goals she has for her future. An ambitious value, she’s working hard at school so that she can get a great career. She knows that she has to do her best at all times to get there.
Perseverance and practice are what it will take and her favourite twig comes everywhere with her to remind her that she needs to go ‘Above and Beyond’ if she is going to succeed.
Hetty loves challenges and inventing new ways to overcome the problems she faces. Her rocket boots are her latest creation to make her fly further. It took lots of trial and error to power them up, and she had to even try things she wasn’t good at, but she did it! She feels incredible!
With her head swirling with new ideas she can’t wait for the next challenge and knows that next time she can make something even better. Her rudder-like tail helps keep her on track and focussed.
She’s really proud of the golden successes she carries with her as they show the effort she’s made. They help lift her higher. She knows however that winning isn’t everything and she would never cheat — cheaters only cheat themselves! So she’s always happy celebrating when others win and learns from them too.
This little value is destined to fly high!

Gentle value, Ronnie Respect wouldn’t ever hurt others. Look at how fluffy he is! He almost floats around school he moves so calmly and quietly.
He’s a brave little value who cares about others’ feelings. He wasn’t always so strong and used to burrow himself away nervously when he heard lies or someone being treated unfairly. Now he works hard with his special broom — sweeping away dishonesty to uncover the truth and speaks up for others. He knows the pain which dishonesty can cause!
He’s really proud of his cosy, bobble hat. It tells others that ‘Manners Matter’ and reminds him to say ‘Please’ and ‘Thank You’ without being prompted. It fits him perfectly.
If you watch carefully you might see his ears twitch. He’s listening so hard as he knows it will help him learn and discover how people are feeling. All this knowledge makes him grow warm inside so he doesn’t interrupt but takes turns to talk.
He uses his shiny watch to always be on time and helps others by slapping the floor excitedly with his tail when it’s time to line up.
Hard-working Ronnie is always on the go, so he has a fantastic pouch to store all of the instructions adults give him. They help keep him safe, happy and learning well. He tidies up his property and rubbish when he’s finished with it and always remembers to ‘Recycle Ronnie’!
