Capel Manor Gardens (0.5 miles) A colourful and scented oasis with 30 acres of richly planted and beautiful themed gardens surrounding a Georgian Manor House and Victorian Stables.

Forty Hall and Estate (0.8 miles) Built by former Lord Mayor of London, Sir Nicholas Rainton in 1632, Forty Hall is one of Britain’s Finest Historic Houses. Following a major refurbishment, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Enfield Council, Forty Hall reopens late spring 2012.

Crews Hill garden centres and nurseries (2.4 miles) A fantastic hub of specialist garden centres and nurseries – you’ll be sure not to go home empty handed.

Waltham Abbey Gardens (3.6 miles) Enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the Rose Gardens and Orchard and explore the history of the Abbey, reputed to be the burial place of King Harold after the Battle of Hastings in 1066.

An enchanting place to visit at any time of yearDelve into the beautiful eight acres of Myddelton House Gardens and discover the compelling story of Edward Augustus Bowles, one of Britain’s most famous self-taught gardeners, artists and expert botanists. He lived in Myddelton House from 1865 to 1954 and dedicated much of his life to transforming the gardens with his love of unusual and exotic plants.

Boasting an impressive range of flora and fauna there’s something to stimulate the senses each season, from colourful spring crocuses to dazzling summer irises. Explore the unusual plants of the Lunatic Asylum, newly restored Kitchen Garden, colourful Alpine Meadow and the extensive snowdrop

collection which brings the gardens to life during February.

The gardens are also home to a beautiful carp lake, a Victorian conservatory and a number of historical artefacts collected and treasured by E A Bowles, including pieces from the original St Paul’s Cathedral and the Enfield Market Cross. Don’t miss the 109 year old Wisteria which turns a brilliant blue when it flowers during May.

Restoring the gardens to their former beautyIn spring 2011 a newly restored Myddelton House Gardens was unveiled, following a two year Heritage Lottery Fund enabled project. In the new Visitor Centre, you can uncover the story of E A Bowles and look out for the two 290 year old lead ostriches that proudly guarded the Wisteria Bridge that once spanned the New River.

1. Peach House The newly restored Peach House with a carpet of crocus ‘Snow Bunting’, one of the cultivar raised by E A Bowles.

2. Enfield Market Cross The cross dates from 1826 and stood in Enfield Town Market Place until 1904, when E A Bowles rescued and transferred it to his garden.

3. Kitchen Garden Watch the Victorian Kitchen Garden develop and flourish.

4. Bowles Tea Room Enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of the Bowles Tea Room, which offers a choice of hot and cold refreshments, selection of cakes and delicious cream teas.
