OzoBots When you
hear the word program-
ing, you probably think of
years on the computer
trying to complete a task.
But that is not so! And I
am here to tell you about
OzoBots - those fun little
robots that anyone can
program! Yes, even you
can do it. But you might
be asking, how do you
program them? Well, it’s
easy. All you have to do is
to draw a line, and the
bot follows that line. The
color that the line is, de-
termines the actions of
the bot. It’s that simple.
Fortunately, the 3rd grade
Grizzlies got a chance to
mess around with these
bots. I have the thoughts
and feelings of some of a
few of the kids. Enjoy.
Ozobots Hello, my name
Mrs. Hocking. I am one of
the 3rd grade teachers. I
think that the Ozobots
were very educational and
fun. What I really liked
about them was that it
made kids think in a new
way. This benefited them
because they are now be-
ginning to understand a
little bit more
about computer
programing.
Aikin W. My name is Anikin W.
from Mrs. Bydalek's Class-
room, and I got a chance
to play with OzoBots.
Here’s what I felt about
them. I felt like the Ozo-
Bots were fun to use, and
that we should use them
more often. What I found
cool about them is how
they were programed with
lines. Awesome stuff!
Myquela My name is Myquela from Mrs. Hocking’s class. I got a chance to mess around with the OzoBots. I liked the Ozo-Bots because they are small and they could fit on my hand. They were also very mobile. I think that good be-haved kids should get a chance to play with these because they deserve it due to their good attitude.
Kayden E. My name I Kaiden E. from
Mrs. Bydalek’s class. My
class and I got to program
Ozobots and complete our
given taskes. Here’s how I
felt about them. I felt like
the Ozobots were awesome
and that other classes
should have a chance to
have them. What I thought
was cool about them is how
you could program them to
make them go somewhere.

Lego Robotics The Lego robotics the 3rd graders used
were called Mindstorms. And they had
to build them first from an instructional
manual. After they built them, they had to
program them with a computer. It is a drag
and drop process. They first view a tutori-
al, the tutorial is basically an instructional
video, teaching the students what they are,
and how they work. They then drag and
drop instructions to the open program, to
instruct the Mindstorm’s what to do. How-
ever, these Mindstorm’s have more poten-
tial than just following a line. They can
dance, put on a light show, sing, and much
more-if you want to get real fancy! The 3rd
graders learned a lot! Plus they were FUN!
We had a wonderful World of Work on Friday, May 19th. The kids get a chance to see and hear about different jobs of people in our community. Certain students prepare an introductory speech for each presenter and then help him or her throughout their presentations. Then the Staff has a nice luncheon in the library for them! We thank you pre-senters, for being here! Here is a list of the folk who pre-sented and talked about their jobs! *Colby Witters-lineman *Cathy Jo Witters-risk assistant manager *Bandy Earl-welder/fabricator *Mike Ridinger -photographer *Mark Bradley-Plumber *Jackie Hough-Banker *McKinzie Welch/lawyer *Joe Snider/deputy *Morgen Lohman/helicopter pilot *Cammie Jackson/salon owner *Ty Aiken/manager flooring store *Miles Sidener -clown entertainer Thanks for coming Professionals!

It was a warm cloudy day and we had a walk-a-thon to raise funds for our school on May 18th. We also gave at least a third of those funds to some great people who have supported us! The Vet-erans in our valley! The Veteran group we are helping this 3rd year is the Veterans Treatment Court. They help veterans who have been imprisoned get back on their feet. Twice a year they give them a fine dinner to those who have completed their treatment program. It is a Veterans Treatment Celebration Dinner! We raised enough funds to be able to give over $300.00
to them. Mrs. Heath introduced Jasmine Smith, who interned as a Teacher here in Mrs. Nedrow’s class and her husband, Chris Smith-a Veteran himself, who works with these veterans. We are happy to help these veterans get back on their feet! Enjoy & have a great dinner on us!
Now, I would like to talk about the actual walk or running that we do for this event! We walk around the field and have a tally stick. Each time we do a lap our teacher will tally it on our tally stick. The Kinders & 1st graders have a smaller lap to do. But they go around and around! This is serious business! They have spray hoses and contraptions set up for us to run through to keep us wet and hydrated! It was a little cloudy & chilly this year but the spray felt good anyway! Some of us like getting wet! A Certificate and a prize were given to the top lap walker/runner for each class & sometimes there are ties. And the Top money makers from each grade were given a certificate and the prize for them is lunch out with Mr. Lee! We sure had lots of fun! Let’s do it again next year!

Camp Wooten By Parker W., Emma M., and Sidney B.
The 6th graders went to Camp Wooten on May 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. At Camp there is the annual tug of war by the end of tug of war there is a girl cabin and a boy cabin that go against each other. This year it was the Bobcat Cabin and the Wolf cabin. The girls ended up losing and the boys won. The other school that went with us was Heights. There was a campfire on the last night we were there. During the campfire every cabin had to perform a skit and some cabins got to lead campfire songs. We thought nothing was scary but maybe it was for some. For kids going next year, you need to not be afraid of making new friends because that is something we all did. Also on
the night hike, be quiet and don’t ruin it when eve-ryone is listening to the animals be-cause one of the counselors did, but oh well!

4th Graders @ Spalding Park
Spalding Park was so much fun. When we were in the
museum we saw so many artifacts and old time sculp-
tures. When we went outside we made a tent, a teepee
style one. When we made the tent we used really long
sticks and cloth. After we made the tent we got to go in-
side. When you go inside it feels like you are a Native
sleeping inside the tent and you have fun at the same
time though!!! When you get into 4th grade, you get to go
to Spalding Park and see all of the cool stuff and artifacts.
Now, you probably want to go and can’t wait till you get
in 4th grade. So keep your dreams high and laugh away!

Public Works EXPO!
By Mrs. Hocking, Mrs. Bydalek & Mrs. Layes The third graders at Grantham went on a Public Works
field trip! It was the 10th Annual Public Works Expo, held on
Thursday, May 25, at the Nez Perce County Fairgrounds. The
Expo is to give awareness of Public Works’ responsibilities and
provides an opportunity where the students can experience a
variety of activities related to practices of Public Works profes-
sionals. Public Works Departments from the City of Lewiston,
Asotin County, and Nez Perce County Road Department partic-
ipated in this Expo.
What the kids saw at the Expo: • an interactive Geographical Information System (GIS) used in Public Works • a demonstration of how Public Works utilizes GPS to find and document City services• street signage • a wastewater jet cleaning demonstration • video inspection of a utility line • traffic sign safety • a storm water quality model • water system backflow information • the path of water used from the river back to the river. They have Public Works Day in hopes to acquaint the students
to professional opportunities in a growing field, learn how our
daily activities affect the environment, and learn about the
many services provided by the region’s Public Works Depart-
ments. This Expo was part of a nationwide observance honor-
ing leaders in Public Works. All local Public Works agencies in
cooperation with the American Public Works Association partic-
ipated as well as the community whom was invited to this
event. The kids just loved it!

NAIA PLAYERS CAME! By Siras P. & Kobey C.
The NAIA players came to our school and the team we visited with, were called the Royals. The little kids and us big kids were thrilled to get au-tographs from them. We had a great BBQ with them! They loved Theresa ‘s cooking! And the kids had fun with the baseball athletes getting autographs!
NAIA GAME Hey guys it's Zaedyn S.
and today were talking
about the NAIA game
that we went to on the
26th of May.
It’s a ball game for col-lege level players. NAIA stands for National Asso-ciation of Intercollegiate Athletics. The NAIA takes place at LCSC in Lewiston, ID. I’m in 5th grade now & I went last year and will go again next year. It was pretty good, but we sit there for 2 hours (it is a little bit hard on one if they are a bit fidgety) but, if you bring money you can go to the food stand and the vending machine to get food and if you did-n’t bring money the school did provide a sack lunch for us to eat. Hope you all enjoyed the baseball games! It’s 1,2,3 strikes your out at the ‘ole ball

By Angela D. Hi friends! I’m Angela. Today I am going to tell you about 21st Century Program
here at Grantham. All year we have been doing all kinds of activities that have improved our academic, physical, and artistic talents. We want to thank Mrs. Chelsey Snyder, who is the lead teacher for our program and her twin sister Mrs. Courtney Lightfield. They have been instrumental in our learning this year!!! For this summer, they are making cool arts and crafts. So, I really want to hear that you joined this summer! You will have a great time! Below, I put pictures of the twins! They hope you have signed up for summer program! Let’s have a great fun artsy summer!
21st Century Program
This last week we 6th
graders from all elementary schools participated in a massed band. It was very awesome. Mrs. Ronningen,
from our school and all the other elementary music teachers, made sure we learned the new music for the
event and got us over there to the CHS Auditorium and we practiced all together under the direction of the
Jr. Hi band teacher- Mrs. Alison Henderson and the CHS Band teacher-Mr. Greg Kolar. Then we had an
evening concert that evening. The CHS Wind Ensemble played with a few of the songs with the kids as
mentors. And the last song played, we thought we played well, but then Mr. Kolar directed one more song
with just the CHS Wind Ensemble group to surprise us and it was awesome sounding! See ya in band next
year in seventh grader people! Here are a few pictures Mrs. Layes took!

Star Shine
Girls Afternoon Tea
And Boys Talk Over Root Beer
By Jaycee
C.
On May 17, 2017 we girls (5th & 6th grades) in Star Shine (an After School Arts Program-GAP) we
went to tea in the library. Mrs. Patti Lee with the help of Mrs. Layes set up a beautiful teatime. We tasted
different types of tea & mini cupcakes and we received a little party favor box of chocolates! Our adult
guests were Abbey Terlson & Mrs. Anna Cox . She spoke on how we really
need to start thinking about our good hygiene and how it is NOT so im-
portant that we look like everybody else just be a generous person and use
our good manners. We had a marvelous time.
The boys in Star Shine + other boys had Root Beer
Floats with the guys: Mr. Call, & Mr. Wendt. They talked
about boy stuff-how to be clean and use our good judg-
ment. Also, they want us to realize what to expect in Jr. Hi.
next year. They really want us to have a smooth going
when we get there!

Star Shine Show! By: Asia M. & Angelis G.R.
The Star Shine show is so much fun! Mrs. Lee
& staff are the best persons! We all get to
choose clothes that were gathered up, for the
girls and boys to choose, and then they help
us style them into the look we want! We got
to go to the Moxie Salon on Main Street in
Lewiston to get their hair done. Then on May
23rd we had a fashion show. There were 13
girls and 5 boys in 5th or 6th grade who partici-
pated. Mrs. Lee and Mrs. Nedrow, the
“Fashionista Sisters”, narrate and we model
our new creations
off to our families!
It was a fun event!

Did you know we have poetry writers in our school? Yes! A few classes participated a National Schools Project, the Young Ameri-can Poetry Digest. Second & Third graders learned to write a Haiku Poem, entered in the contest and now some of their poems will be published! In October the library will receive a book with all the ac-
cepted poems! "Haiku" is a tradi-tional form of Japanese poetry. Haiku poems consist of 3 lines. The first and last lines of a Haiku have 5 syllables and the middle line has 7 syllables. The lines rarely rhyme. I tried my
hand at this, and here ya go! School is ending, I think I’m going to shout, Have a great summer! dyl
