Featured review about MysoreA unique experience"Looking for a different experience, inspired by River Monsters, we headed out to try our luck atAngling. We were off to KRS Fishing Camp near Anthanahalli, with great hosts Peter Caroll andDerek Dsouza. From the very start as we headed towards the place, the adventure startedsetting in for us as we started taking our deviation from the Bangalore Mysore highway into thewilderness late in the evening. From this point, as we hit the camp, we were welcomed by thefriendly people at the resort, who showed us our tents. We quickly freshened up and assembledin the evening to listen to our Guru Mr Peter Caroll. He briefed us that we get up at and beready at 6:00 by the backwaters, where we will be given our classes. By now the barbecue andbonfire was all set, and we had a lovely homely dinner.

Next day morning, we all got up really early and headed for the spot. We took our classes, asPeter explained our equipment and gear, and he made it look all quite simple. Many aspects ofangling were covered and hands on practice was provided. And as we hit the waters, thebeepers were triggering, and we started reeling our catches. We were taught how to delicatelyhold the beautiful fishes, take a couple of pictures and released them back to freedom.Breakfast, lunch and Snacks all came to our fishing points, so we didn't lose even a minutetrying our luck.

Couple of us took a quick break to enjoy some swimming in the backwaters as well. Most thingsare provided at the camp. The place is remote and that is what makes it great, so if you haveany special needs make sure to carry them along. A must is sunblock, hats, sun glasses and atorch.

What started out as a curiosity, has now got most of us now hooked to a very interesting hobby.

Page 4/16

And finally I figured out why they say Tight Lines, it is the expression of saying good luck whileyou fish, which is something you will need i.e. lots of luck and patience." - Santosh Rao, , Mar24, 2015

Mysore-A historic Destination"Mysore trip needs to be planned well as there are lot of activities to do and lighting can be seenonly in the night.

Day1

=====

We reached Mysore around 4PM on Friday. Checked into the hotel and had planned to visit theLight and Sound show which starts at 7 PM. Found out that the light and sound show has beencancelled for the last 3 months.

Day2

=====

Since we were tired from the previous day's travel we decided to start the day at ourconvenience. We started around 11 Am and went straight to Chamundeswari temple. We sawa view point and thought we will stop there on our back. That was a mistake as we return by adifferent route.

Now the temple is crowded and there are lots of queue. Depending on the time that you haveyou can buy a ticket for Rs 10 to 100. We got the tickets for Rs 100 for an express darshan.From here we decided to go to the Nandi temple.

It was 2 Pm and time for lunch. Our driver stopped at Annapurana and it was a true delight.Clean, Hygenic and Cheap. We had North Indian thali for Rs 140 and Punjabi thali for Rs 200.(Uploaded a photo of the sign that you see on the road)

Just next to it is Sand Museum. Entry tickets are for Rs 40 and though we had read mixedreviews online it was a wonderful experience. The place is not very crowded and you will donewith your visit in max 20 minutes.

From here we headed to Mysore palace and saw it on our own. We were able to cover it within1 hour.

Now we had time in hand and we decided to visit Brindavan gardens. It was just 15 kms fromour hotel but we were stuck in a terrible traffic jam and could reach the garden only at 7:30 PM.Since it was a Saturday the musical fountain show was on and we immediately bought ticketsfor boat ride. Within 2 minutes we were on the other side and we could see the musical

Page 5/16

fountains. Evening is the best time to visit the place.

Day3

====

We wanted to visit Bandipur and had reserved Safari tickets online. Carry the reference numberwith you to avoid confusion at the ticket booking counter. While you are booking online you getto choose the seats but the ones allocated at the time of taking the ticket are different. Do notaccept Seat No 13 and 14. They are on the wheel of the bus. We saw elephant, deers, wildboar and birds. Tiger could be spotted only through binoculars. The journey back took approx 3hours as there was traffic on the road.

In afternoon we decided to visit the city of Srirangapatna. We headed to the Bird Sanctuary.Initially when we entered the park we were trying to spot the birds near the trees. Then wedecided to got for a boat ride. It was a wonderful experience and we could see a lot of birds.The boatmen started describing the different varieties of birds and we could spot 4 crocodilesduring our 30 minute boat ride. This was an experience of lifetime.

From there we headed to Tipu Sultan's summer palace. We took just 20 minutes inside thepalace. Photography is not allowed. It was a good experience to see the swords and the clothesof those time.

Finally we headed to Gumbaz-Tipu Sultan's resting place and hired a guide who gave us agood overview.

We were dead tired by this time but we thought it would be a good idea to see the lighting atMysore Palace. We reached around 6:30 PM and the lighting starts only at 7 PM. The cabdriver took us to New Mysore Refreshment restaurant. Here they served food while you aresitting on the taxi. Seems to be a very popular joint in Mysore. We headed back to the palaceand the lights were on. It was a beautiful sight and worth the wait." - Amita Sharma, Raipur,Jan 28, 2015

Cultural Bliss"If you live in Bangalore and you are an avid traveler, Mysore would not be your favouritedestination. So I am writing this for the sake of those people who are not avid travelers and wholike to visit cultural and heritage cities in India. Mysore is one of them. It is not as big and ashyped as Bangalore. There is nothing much to do here apart from visiting tourist attractions.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: There are a lot of places to go sightseeing like the zoo, theBrindavan Gardens, the palace etc etc etc. Lot of places to go shopping as well as lots ofeateries.

Activities & things to do: Like I said, nothing much to do here apart from sightseeing. You could

go to B.R Hills which is about 80kms from here and there are several other places likeShivanasamudra and Sangam. You could also go to Srirangapatna Bird Sanctuary which isalso a lake infested by crocodiles. Apart from that Ooty and Coorg is also easily accessible. Onthe way to Ooty you can also visit the Bandipur National Park.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: From Bangalore, take the Mysore Highway. I isjust a 150 KM drive and the road is in an excellent condition. You will really enjoy the drive. Forpeople relying on public transport, you can take a Volvo from Bangalore. Every half an hour aVolvo departs from Bangalore to Mysore. Then there is also a train which goes to Mysore fromBangalore," - Savio Thomas, Bangalore, Mar 31, 2011

Mysore - The Hub for the Variety Seeking Traveller"The place in South India you must not miss for the sheer variety it offers. The place has held itscharm even though it has been pounded by tourism - the place for its moving crowd is quite tidyand the buildings in main city areas have not given into any architectectural changes ofbuildings like its big brother Bangalore nearby. Do plan a three day stay in Mysore unless youwant to rush thru the place I assure your time will be justified (unless you are from Bangaloreand can keep going there.)

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: The Palace to be seen during the day and from the outsidewhen it is lit at night .The Zoo will be liked both by kids & adults . Brindavan Gardens - to beseen at night not very impressive compared to the global standards but must see as it was oneof the pioneer gardens. A visit to Srirangapatna Fort- remanants ,Tipus Tomb and the Museum.The museum visit for non art lovers who might change their mind after seeing Lady holdingLamp - I think its Ravi Varma,s. Shop for Handicrafts but be ready to bargain in the privateshops and silk clothing .

Activities & things to do: There are spots to visit such as the Ranganthittu bird sanctury which isnot to be missed and Chamundi hills . If in your own vehicle then ideal to spend half day at eachspot but if not please opt for the day packages all the hotels offer . They even split it into onehalf on one day and the other on another day. Picnic suggested along the Cauvery nearSrirangapatna at Sangam.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Train from Bangalore not recommended unlessyou use the upmarket ones. Bus is comfortable or Car as gives you more mobility. Avoidableduring the Holiday season and Dussera as it gets crowded . You can get very good bargainsupto 30 percent off on Rooms in the Resorts around during the weekdays which have poolsetc." - Surej Krishnadass, Bangalore, May 30, 2006
