Questions and AssignmentsBy using TRIZ systematic innovation methodology, please solve the problems posted in thesections below.

Part 1: (contribute 25% to the total score)

How do we do things differently to solve the following challenges faced by the nation? Note:Pick only 1 (one) problem to solve:(a) In most regions, there is a systemic shortage of skilled ICT workers. At the heart of these

systemic shortages is a pervasive mismatch between the capabilities needed byemployers and the skills and experience of many ICT job seekers. The consequences ofthis mismatch has posted serious recruitment challenges for companies and frustrated jobseekers especially for those below 5 years of experience. The issues are worsened by thechanging nature of the ICT job functions due to rapid technological innovation and growingneeds of non technical skills. How do we bridge the supply and demand gap and increasethe quality of skilled ICT workers in Malaysia?

    (b) In any country, crime creates lots of nuisance and endangers public security and peace. It

also caused large resources to fund investigations, conduct trials and maintain prisons.Like in many parts of the world, Malaysia too is experiencing similar challenges on crime. The crime rate has registered rapid increment that has driven multiple efforts to contain thetrend. Studies have shown that rapid economic expansion has contributed to the rate.Growing population, influx of immigrants, inflation, poverty index, high unemployment, parental neglect and many other factors contributed to the problem. Why is this happeningand how do we slow down the increasing trend of crime?

    (c) So much has been planned and initiated to increase the R&D investment in Malaysia. Theimportance and urgency to invest in this science-based decision making are critical toenable a sustainable economic growth. In the past, most of the R&D investments relied on

government initiatives and recently plans emphasize on aggressive private sectorinvolvement. The threats and adversities posed by a growing human population andclimate changes drive the need to overcome and find the solutions to the world problem. How do you encourage more investment in R&D in these fields, increase thecompetitiveness of the nation and enable a sustainable economic growth?

Please provide the following information in your recommendation:1. Problem Statement i.e. the problem which you are solving2. Benefits and/or impact if problem is solved3. Identify the TRIZ process used i.e. show the process flow4. Identify the TRIZ tools used and why it is being used i.e. state the tools e.g. Functional

Analysis, Engineering Contradictions, Physical Contradictions, S-Curves, etc.5. Provide potential solutions. Note: Theoretical solutions are acceptable. Prototyping is not

required; however, the solutions need to be technically feasible and reasonable.

Questions and AssignmentsPart 2: (contribute 25% to the total score)There is a transport system where a pipe is used to transport material which is wood basedusing water as medium of transportation. The pipe is 1 meter long. After 1 month of operation,it was found that the pipe was leaking and on further investigation, it was found that the

material (which was being transported) was rubbing and knocking onto the insides of the pipe. This caused a damage which then resulted in a water leak in the pipe.

Boundary conditions:(a) The pipe material cannot be changed(b) The medium of transportation i.e. water cannot be changed(c) The mode of operation i.e. the transport system for the material cannot be changed

The following information is required when submitting your recommendation:1. Problem Statement i.e. the problem which you are solving2. Benefits and/or impact if problem is solved

    3. Identify the TRIZ process used i.e. show the process flow4. Identify the TRIZ tools used and why it is being used i.e. state the tools e.g. Functional

Analysis, Engineering Contradictions, Physical Contradictions, S-Curves, etc.5. Provide the potential solutions. Note: Theoretical solutions are acceptable. Prototyping is

not required; however, the solutions need to be technically feasible and reasonable. The

solutions should be able to resolve the problem of pipe damage such that the pipe neednot be replaced in the future. Additional resources (e.g. material, equipment, tools) may beadded.

Part 3: (contribute 50% to the total score)Select one of the problems that you have encountered. Try to visualize and document the

problem. Solve the identified problem using TRIZ process & tools. Note that the problemshould have a certain level of complexity with impact or benefits if solved. Write down theassumption and boundary condition, if any in the steps to solve the problem.

The following information is required when submitting your recommendation:1. Problem Statement i.e. the problem which you are solving2.

Provide the potential solutions

Note: Theoretical solutions are acceptable. Prototyping would be great to show

case the proposed solutions. The solutions need to be technically feasible

    and reasonable.
