The pulp for this paper is grown in a sustainably managed forest of fast growing trees. The growth rate of the trees is important, as the faster growth maximises the amount of carbon they absorb from the atmosphere in their life cycle. After harvesting, trees are replanted to ensure the cycle of carbon removal from the atmosphere continues. For the good of the land where we grow our grapes.

N E W R E L E A S E T A S T I N G LONDON 2019

Welcome to the 2019 New Release Tasting in London.

We are delighted to present 111 wines from six of New Zealand’s wine producing regions including Hawke’s Bay, Wairarapa, Marlborough, Nelson, North Canterbury and Central Otago. Today is a showcase of the 2019 vintage as well as recently released wines from previous vintages.

Check out our Unsigned Talent table for the wineries who are seeking distribution - Hans Herzog Family Estate and Staete Landt.

All wines shown here today are produced sustainably, which to us means delivering excellent wine to consumers in a way that enables the natural environment, and the businesses and communities involved, to thrive. When winemaker Simon Waghorn decided to create his own brand he chose the name “Astrolabe” because of the historic ties with Marlborough and the connotations of exploration and discovery. All Simon's skill and experience, combined with capturing the essence of Marlborough in wines of purity, focus and elegance. Of special interest to Simon are the unique qualities of sub regionality as expressed in the Valleys wines, and how the sub regions can combine as Marlborough classics in the Province wines.

Pour yourself a glass, it’s got a story... In the eighties two wind-surfing buddies started an adventure. They purchased land and joined early mavericks growing grapes and making wine in Marlborough. Inspired by a sighting of a rare New Zealand Falcon at Lake Chalice, they built the brand and connection to the land. Chloe Gabrielsen and her team chose the right moment to make wines; a liquid snapshot of place and time - to her it is whakapapa. Since 2015, the Ibbotson family have run Lake Chalice, they continue to proudly support our endangered Karearea by sponsoring the Marlborough Falcon Trust. Do you taste the story now?

He had to find the perfect gem and corresponding jewellery box for a precise wine-growing endeavour, far from the industrial vineyards also present in Marlborough.
